This is where I'm at

Greetings all,

My name is Andrew!

Just wanted to introduce myself and provide my RX8 story.

I was working in a local fast food restaurant when someone shared with me they just bought a new car, and their old one was in a parking lot broken down. I asked what they were doing with their old car, and he told me he didn't know, so I said well maybe I can get it running, what is it? He told me it's an RX8, I'd heard a little about rotary motors but have zero first hand experience.

Couldn't get it to crank, all tests indicated the motor was under abnormal resistance, had it towed to my garage, upon minimal disassembly I determined the motor was completely seized up. Told him I'd give him 600 bucks for the car and maybe I'd figure it out.

Fast forward a few days... It's Martin Luther King weekend - half price at pick and pull. A short 2.5 hour drive and I was staring down an Rx8 with a free spinning motor, and no metal in the oil pan, so I figured what the hell, for $150 bucks I'll pull the motor. Ripped the motor out, and brought it home in the back seat of my 2002 lancer. Got the motor out of my car and in to the garage, and removed the old motor from the RX8.

I was hoping to do a compression test before installing, but after some research determined that doing a compression test on an external 13B motor isn't worth the pain. I hand cranked it and got 3 bursts of air on each rotor per full rotation. I also poked the apex seals and determined all the springs were working.

Today I'll be flushing the oil cooler system/lines, and the oil metering system. I'm waiting on the new external motor seals from Atkins Rotary.

My plan at this point is to get all the old external oil components flushed out, drop the motor in the car and hook up the oil lines, enabling me to do a full compression test on the motor. Assuming it gives decent readings, I'll get everything hooked back up and run my budget sports car.

I now open the floor for questions, comments, concerns, insults, barrages, tirades, helpful hints.
