Where to get the best parts for my "lemon"

I bought my RX-8 about 2 weeks ago. Being only 21, I bought it because it looked awesome and was fast. Well, you guessed it, its a lemon. Ive had to buy 4 new tires already, a catalytic converter, the parking lights and 3rd brake light doesn't work and now it needs a new clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. Of course most places you call say they're dealer specified. So without paying out the *** from a dealer, where are good places to get those items? Just eBay? And if the clutch does end up needing replacing as well, what about that? A buddy said to try an exedy clutch. I've spent too much money already and can't keep spending too much more. Any help would be awesome. If I could get my money back by reselling it, I would...but I know I wont

Sorry to hear about your 8, Turbo. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that you did not read the "New and Potential Owners" thread before purchasing your 8. Anyway, I suggest reading the stickied threads on the top of this forum to get an idea what you're dealing with.

As far as your clutch, I suggest that you rule out a broken pedal assembly before buying any parts. Visit the "Series 1 Tech Garage" and read up on the clutch pedal issue.

As far as parts are concerned, I personally have purchased parts from the For Sale section in this forum. You'll be surprised to find good prices on quality used parts. There are parts however, that you cannot skimp on (you'll know which ones after reading the stickies). Check out the Vendor list on this forum as well (click on the menu on the top right of the screen). I'd trust those people first over random eBay listings.

Good luck!

Gotcha. Thanks. And no I didnt read that thread before I bought it. I wasn't told about this site until after I purchased it. I did just get done reading though, a lot more things to keep up with than I expected. I'll go check out the for sale stuff too, had no idea about that. Good lookin' out

Clutch Pedal: Dealer warrantied until 8yrs 100k after first purchase of that car. If you are out of that, BHR's welded pedal is your next best bet, being only slightly more than an OEM one from a dealer, and you can be assured that it won't fail ever again

Clutch itself: OEM is best, which is made by Exedy, and you can get it for $375 shipped from BHR or about $360 + shipping from Amazon are the cheapest options there. Exedy Stage1 has some quality issues and is only a few bucks cheaper, might last a full duration, might only last 20k, might start shredding itself by 100 miles. I've dealt with both of the latter before going back to OEM.

Any basic OEM parts, like the clutch master and slave, forum vendor Mazmart is one of the best bets available, as they can supply any OEM part, for FAR FAR cheaper than dealer prices in general. They are competitive on most maintenance parts, and largely can't be beaten on actual repair parts. Part out threads here are an option too.

...and I recommend lots of reading

80k miles. 2005 RX-8 Shinka. No VIN search from dealer. Also a new problem just arose. As you know, its been sitting for like a week because the clutch sticks to the floor. Even though its been sitting, I've still been cranking it and letting it run for about 10 minutes, every single day. Well, yesterday (Tuesday) was the only day where I didnt have the time to crank it, now today (Wednesday) it won't start. Its turning over and trying, just not firing so I know its not the battery. I dont know if its the fuel pump or what? Any ideas?

If you have not already add coils, plugs and wires to the list of items you need to replace.

for just general parts I usually use rockauto...they have great prices, and on most parts they give a variety of manufacturers from cheap throw away parts to top of the line replacements

No, never flooded a rotary. Never owned a rotary. I thought that by cranking it everyday and letting it run for like 10 min and revving it a little, I'd keep it from flooding while it sits...

How do I know if it's flooded though? It's been sitting for like 1.5 weeks. And I let it run for a good 10 minutes every day.

If its flooded, it wont start!

Sitting has no influence on flooding, cold shutdowns cause flooding.

Flooding occurs on start up, not shut down. If you shut the engine off cold, the excess fuel from the cold engine temp (ECU commanded) sits there and when added to the fuel from the next start up, it may overwhelm the ignition and not start, and you have a flood.

IF your battery has enough juice and the starter in healthy condition to spin the motor fast enough, and your ignition is healthy enough, even this excess fuel won't be enough to cause a flood. Something has to be weak or to fail in order to cause a flood.

The only real way to know for sure that it's flooded is to pull the spark plugs and crank the engine with them out, as it will help sweep the fuel out of the housing faster than trying to get it up to the side ports. If you crank and fuel isn't coming out, then flooding isn't the problem.

The only way a flood can occur from just sitting there is if you have at least 2 leaky injectors that are slowly leaking fuel into BOTH rotor housings while it's sitting there. Even 1 leaky injector wouldn't cause a flood, since the other rotor would presumably be able to fire normally, and that would be enough to get it going and overcome the problem in the other housing.

On the other can, sitting for a while can mean a weak battery, and a weak battery can mean a flood, even if you didn't shut it off cold. This is by far more likely the scenario.

Are you sure the car is a Shinka, I thought the 2005 Shinka only came in Black Cherry and the photos you have in your sig make the car look silver?

Okay, I'll get on those issues as soon as I can. I really appreciate it guys. But I never have shut it down cold. Im really hoping its not flooded. If it is, how can I de-flood it if I can? And yeah, the guy I bought it from told me it was a Shinka. He didnt have the owners manual to where I could look. I didn't know that it only come in one color anyways. Lmao.

The 2005 Shinka is often mis-labeled due to registration slips from DMVs. They list the 2005 RX-8 as "Base/Shinka", which is meant to mean "Base or Shinka" as those were the only 2 trims that year. (The Sport, Touring, and GT were option packages, which don't get reported). Too many owners automatically assume that it means that they have a Shinka. Shinka has the sand parchment interior color, several Shinka badges, and the most telling, was only available in Black Cherry Mica for that year. 2006 had more colors available for the Shinka.

Lots of deflooding methods you can use, check the DIY section.
