Welding, fabrication, and the like?

Coming from the jeep and offroad world, seemed like I could always have something to if I had some free time. Just an absolute endless lost of things I could cut and weld up from frame fixes to bump stops to skid plates. Best part was how cheap everything was. Scrap steel or 1/8 inch and a few hours of time for tangible benefits.

So do we have a builders corner somewhere around here? Looks like the DIY is limited to bolt ons or serious engine work. Short on cash, but not on steel and I can't just not fiddle with something that has a motor. I need something to keep me sane through nursing school. If nothing is really out there I'm considering picking up whatever free drive train components I can get, welding up some scary looking go cart-ish size cage, and having seeing how long I can stare death in the face.

There is no dedicated "builders corner", per se... But there are some interesting projects for you to tackle.

Search through the DIY's and see if anything looks interesting enough to tackle! Perhaps some projects from the past, which were never completed/ followed up on? Mounting brackets are one thing off the top of my head...

Offroad scene as Jeep's aren't the same as Rx8 ''mostly'' road performance one. You can build a full suspension on a offroad overnight with metal tubing and take the risk it works on a trail, guessing on a sport car might end your life really quick. Assuming you're planning to fab well designed stuff for the task and you're skilled enough to do it right, you might find a lot of fab freaks in the rx8 community. Myself did all the fab on my daily driven 8 and currently working on my track car project ''8 also'', we don't have a dedicated section on here but i'd be interested to share projects and builts with you if you're serious about it

I really should start all my posts mentioning I don't really ask questions in my posts over the years. I just sort of throw my thoughts out there to help me think, and if people reply it's cool.

Yup, those were the obvious ones I felt. Thing is I'm a perfectionist and egomaniac and can't just do something because I saw it somewhere. I have to know the why and how. Which can explain why I HATED seeing guys drop 40k on a brand new rubicon, then putting 4" lift and 37's on it to go smash some puddles.

See, that's what I loved about off roading. I screw up going 2mph, not much to go wrong. Different story if I hit that expansion joint taking the on ramp at 70.

Big hurdle right now is since I started nursing school, I had to leave my job at the garage. Hence no access to the 140 amp snap on. Back to the 90 amp once I learned on. It would work great for the shock relocating brackets and what not for the jeep, but I didn't have the *****/experience under my belt to fishplate my frame with it.

Oh, I should probably get neck deep in my independent suspension research, too. Back to google I go.
