Vin locations

Hey guys, just got my rx8! It's an 04 auto but it was a steal. To register in PA I need to trace a vin tag using pencil and paper. Obviously the dash one won't work -- what are the other vin locations (not chassis number) on these cars? Already searched and could only find decoding threads. Thanks!

The car is coming from out of state, just got it in from a buddy of mine in Texas. In state you don't have to do anything but cars coming from out of state need to be vin verified. All the other states I've dealt with this is part of the inspection process but for some reason it's included in registration here. I'd drive it to a tag location but the out of state reg expired (it's been sitting garaged for a year or two) and a cracked windshield is a bit of a ticket magnet.

Firewall I was only able to find the chassis number? It's been dark and it's a very dusty engine bay so I could have missed it.

That right there is the problem and why you need to have a copy made, I have bought several cars out of state and never had to do that.

yes the vin is on the fire wall remove the plastic engine cover (if you have one) and it should be there

Thanks Sonic, I'll dust off some more and check again for the vin there. The notary or tag place verify the vin themselves if you can drive it there (supposedly, wonder how many actually care enough to do it) or inspection station...or the tracing. The tracing seems silly to me and easily forged (label makers?) but I can't change the rule. Anyways thanks for the help.

Many thanks sonic! No wonder I couldn't find it, was caked with dust! Got a good enough tracing to register it last night. I came back, put the plates on, started it up all ready to go out and....stall. Turns out I didn't hook up the battery terminals tight enough and one lost contact over a driveway bump, engine sputtered. So now it's flooded somehow I managed that 3 days in...good time to get the de flooding procedure down I guess
