Assuming S2 and S1 VFAD are the same, mine is plugged by a plastic piece, so you should plug it as well.

Don't plug it.

The "plug" that people see is actually called a "silencer" by Mazda. It doesn't actually seal. It's there to allow the VFAD vacuum actuator system to return to atmospheric pressure.

Below 5500 RPM, the solenoid is de-energized and the VFAD actuator is kept at intake pressure (vacuum). Above 5500 RPM, the solenoid is energized and it allows the VFAD actuator to return to atmospheric pressure.

If you cap that port, the VFAD will never return to atmospheric pressure and it will never open.

VARIABLE FRESH AIR DUCT (VFAD) SOLENOID VALVE CONSTRUCTION/OPERATION (13B-MSP (HIGH POWER))
VARIABLE FRESH AIR DUCT (VFAD) SOLENOID VALVE INSPECTION (13B-MSP (HIGH POWER))
VARIABLE FRESH AIR DUCT (VFAD) ACTUATOR INSPECTION (13B-MSP (HIGH POWER))

Oops, sorry.

So is that silencer essential, or it's just for noise reduction?

It's definitely not essential. No idea about the other part.

Yes. I'd put something over the nipple to filter out the dust and other schmoo to make sure it doesn't gum up the solenoid.

Here is what the stock cap looks like.

Just ask a local dealer and see how much this costs.

The stealership around here is costly as .... so if it is just something that vents that nipple of the actuator to the atmosphere iwill just add some cheap ebay fiter and it will be looking awesome :D

Vfad Solenoid replacement

I recently installed a short ram intake on my car and made the mistake of throwing away the sensor and the vacuum chamber. Could someone tell me where I could find a new one because I haven’t been able to find a new one. It’s throwing a CEL and I need a fix whether it’s finding the part or removing the whole vfad system
