Hello friends, I have bought the RX-8 2 month ago. It got a aftermarket reservoir at the stock wahser fluid reservoir position. It seems have a tube connecting to the front of the engine. I have no idea what that reservoir is and what its function. Does anyone know what it is?
Also the stock air pump has been replaced with a aftermarket one and I can't find that item on internet. So I am thinking maybe someone here share the same type as mine?
Unidentified Reservoir line connecting to the front of engine "Air Pump"?
I hope you've been putting 2 stroke oil in the container that feeds to the front of the engine, because that's what you're engine is injecting. If it's not fed oil, your engine will not live long. It's called a Sohn adapter, you can google it.
What's the history of the car? Did the previous owner make these modifications? Did they feed it oil?
Oh NOOO, I saw there was fluid when I bought the car. However now it is empty. I have drove less than 15 miles on it, hope nothing wrong with the engine. I will fill it up right away and do a compression test as well.
Is it okay if the tank cap doesn't tighten up? Should I get a new one?
15 miles is fine-ish unless it was 15 miles at the redline. Good thing you asked about it
You want a 2 stroke oil with JASO FD rating. There's a Lucas one that seems generally available and not expensive.
No problem for tank cap, unless you see a risk of foreign objects getting in there and going into the engine. It doesn't need to be airtight (in fact it should pass air so it can drain properly).
Not necessary to premix, its a choice. I do, but have no data to suggest it ultimately helps.
You're also missing the air pump, do you still have a catalytic converter?
Glad you noticing that. No, whole exhaust system are aftermarkets and midpipe have no Cat. The seller told me there was a high flow one and he took Cat stuff out of the pipe. However as what I have seen it is just a straight pipe with a resonator.
