Under body engine splash shield repair
Last night pulling into my garage the under body plastic splash got caught on a door anchor(sliding barn doors). It bent the plastic back (to the floor) and cracked it a little. It bent back upwards fine. I found all of the clips that fell.
Luckily, my car is still new to me and I’m currently in the midst of upgrades/repairs or else I’d be furious.
So, I know how important this shield is for the cooling system and I plan on making this baby air tight again. I’m thinking of buying a metal sheet to bolt over/under the crack.
Im posting to see if anyone has any suggestions or experience with this. I saw new plastic shields go for $200 avg. I’m looking for the best possible bandaid.
I don’t have pictures of it yet, I’ll be under my 8 this weekend.
thanks!

If you are going to eventually replace the most cost effective fix would be to epoxy the crack. Ideally remove the shield epoxy both side then reinstall. You don't have to remove it and could just do one side but both would be stronger.

When mine was damaged I replaced it with an LRB undertray.
RX-8 Undertray
It is metal, fits very nice and comes with nice hardware for around $100.
Another option for repairing it is to zip tie stitch it. I did that on my sisters car a few weeks ago after a small cooler went under her car on the freeway.
