DIY Question: Fixing the Engine Splash Shield

I'm from Seattle and the previous owner apparently didn't like to go slow on hills so the guard under the engine was so screwed up that there was no repairing it, and about 1/3 of it was missing. I bought new parts but half the stuff is riveted together onto other parts (namely the wheel well guards) so some of the clasps are there but I don't have a rivet gun and with some the original fastener is just not there.

I was wondering if anyone else has worked on this and figured out a good way of fastening it. I could just glue/epoxy it but I don't want to interfere with oil changes and any engine work I do.

The RX8 plastic parts are put together with plastic clips, not metal rivets. These clips come in two styles, one has a phillips head in the middle and requires a quarter turn to pull the center out about a 1/4" and the other is flat and you use a flat head screwdriver to pull it out the quarter inch. Once the center is out the quarter inch you can then pull the full clip out from the outer edge. Here is an example of one...

I'm aware of some of those clips. Sadly not sure how well I can get them out though its nice to know where I can order the new ones. The old ones are so old I could get enough torque on the screw part and get anything on the back side holding the clip. However trust me there are 2 metal rivets on either side. Trying to take the old one out I had to drill out 2 of them. I think the sheet is still at my buddy's place I could take a picture of them for ya

Mazmart sells them.

I bought a few of them but they fall out pretty easy. As soon as I get a chance I'm tapping and bolting the engine under cover on to the frame.

The rivets tell me that someone knew they had a problem and tried to fix it themselves instead of replacing that sheet. Any chance your car is lowered?

Underbody tray - factory plastic rivets\fasteners

I recently had to replace the plastic rivets on my under-body - following some posts in this forum - and also because the plastic rivets (\fasteners) need to be matched to the hole sizes - I just ended up getting them from the Mazda dealership. I paid about $22 for 10 of them. The part number was BC1D-56-145 and they fit perfectly (pic attached). I have a 2006 6-Speed RX8.
