I heard not all dealerships have a compression tester. I'd love to get this done on my car. How long did the process take?

 

Process did't take long. I'm probably wrong here, but I think the tech raised my car up on the lift, went in and removed the spark plugs through the wheel well, screwed the tester sensor into the spark plug holes in the rear rotor, attached the wire from the sensor to the compression test box, then turned the engine over for a bit. Then the compression box read out the 3 numbers along with the RPM's. Then he repeated the process for the front rotor.... Whole thing took maybe 10 - 15 minutes. It was the first time I had seen it done so I might not be 100% correct. He spent more time explaining the readings to me than he did doing the test.

 

Anyway - my friend with an Rx8 was saying a local guy (NE Ohio) actually bought a compression tester. I was curious what the process was for testing, sounds straight forward.

 

Maybe someone else could chime in that knows for sure about compression testing. I have teenagers so I am no longer qualified to give advice. LOL

 

Basically that is correct...the only thing you missed is to have the throttle open

Usually the ESS is disconnected as well to prevent it trying to start
