I've always used non synthetic motor oil in my 2006 rx8 Shinka,my wife had the oil changed at a local shop and they used mobile one full synthetic.should I change the oil again or wait until the next oil change?

I use only Mobil1 0W40.
Oil topic has been discussed over & over.
Unless your engine is under warranty, leave it until your next 3k change.
Do some research and decide for yourself.

Fwiw, this is what they use in Japan;

Perfect Big Cajun! ...and if your engine's under warranty use what it recommends in your book. For US it is 5W20 non-synthetic.

If you install a Sohn OMP adapter, you can run whatever oil you want. I'm using Idemitsu in the OMP reservoir and Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 in the crank case.

What's the difference between those two and the standard 5-20W?

I prefer to do my own oil changes and not take my car to a local shop. My grandfather was a mechanic and always taught me to use the same oil and not to switch my oil.

My grandfather was a diesel mechanic for Fairbanks-Morse.
He used to dump his old oil along the ditch banks to kill weeds.

I don't do that because I know not to.
Just because Grandpa said it doesn't make it right.

You're fine, modern oils don't swell/shrink the seals like the older blends, so switching to or from synth hasn't been a problem in a long time. There are many opinions on what's actually better for the Renesis engine, the bottom line seems to be either is fine as long as you change it at 3k.

There are quite a few threads on this subject if you're interested in more detail, but they tend to start arguments so won't delve into them here.

Just a heads-up NotAPreppie, if you use a Sohn adaptor, Mazda can invalidate any rotary engine warranty if they see this setup. Sohn setups are great, but just be aware it can invalidate your rotary engine warranty.

You mean the warranty on my 2005 with a 3rd-party rebuilt engine and S2 transmission that's been on a ridiculous number of autocross runs and several track days?

I'm not worried about Mazda voiding that...

The warranty warning was obviously for those 08-11 owners that STILL have Mazda engine warranty left and may be considering adding a SOHN adaptor after reading this thread.

Considering it won't work on a Series 2 motor is is hardly an issue

Then just for the remaining 08's with any warranty left. I did not know it won't work on Series 2 motors. Thanks for the info. LOL
