Strut Tie Bar Doesn't Fit Over Coilovers

Hello all

Quick question for ya'll wanted to know if anyone's had this issue before.
My stock strut tie bar does not fit over the damper adjustments protruding from the top of my coilovers. They come in contact with each other and the tie bar cannot be bolted down.

1) anyone recommend a cheap but just as practical strut bar to replace that will give more height clearance

2) am i devalue'ing it, or reducing its structural integrity to the point where it will break, if i dremel/grind maybe half a cm of metal (deep and length) out of the strut bar

Picture below of the strut not bolted down because it cannot as it is already in contact with the damper adjustment.

any tips?

cheers all - sorry for the silly question. Just didn't want to hack and slash without knowing my options first.

in all honesty, the strut bar on rx8s is just a show piece.

i dont know of many/ if any race rx8s even use them.

theres information out there (i was reading it yesterday) about why the strut bar is basically useless on the rx8.

I took mine off when i installed coilovers. To answer your question, yes i do think drilling out the strut bar will make its already uselessness even more useless.

That was a first run issue with the Powertrix coilovers, you can contact Charles at Powertrix to have him send you shorter adjuster fittings or you can just do what I did and remove some material from the strut bar.

buy a cheap aftermarket strut bar on ebay if you really want a strut bar... like others said it doesnt really do much on our cars. ive seen nice-ish cheap ones on ebay for $50 and that would save you from having to cut or modify anything.

The exception would be the Mazdaspeed shock tower bar (we don't have struts). It has the master brake cylinder brace that eliminates flex in the firewall when you apply the brakes. I have the Mazdaspeed bars front and rear and yes, it's mainly for looks. The rear bar did nothing noticeable. When I put one on my RX7, I noticed a big difference right a way.

You didn't destroy it so it should clean up nice. I got a cusco strut bar (it's what they call it) for about $70 online, it was a great bargain, the material is top-notch, and they have ample space for adjustable dampeners like yours. Most of the aftermarket bars I've seen online have the space you want, and it'll brighten up the engine bay with some chrome/color/whatever you want.
