That's because my car works.

Don't take the hate too seriously. Everyone hates everyone else's car here, mostly because the Rx8 is the most charming pile of garbage on the road. That being said, nobody likes the sound of a straight piped two rotor.

Cmon guys! To each his own Besides, he's probably new. Cut him some slack. We are one big happy family To the OP, if you like it, then that's all that matters man.

By the way, does ditching the exhaust really lose power? Before I bought my exhaust, I thought about ditching the stock exhaust too, but I didn't coz I thought it'll be too loud. When I finally got my exhaust, while installing, I started the car up without the stock exhaust just for kicks. I'm assuming that's the same as having straight pipes? Anyways, it was loud, but not crazy loud like some of you guys say :/ It sounded very deep and throaty. Didn't sound raspy at all. Maybe it was because I had the CAT on. It's gutted but the stock mid-pipe was on, so maybe that reduces the sound?

i kept my cat as well, im no expert but im willing to say the 5-10lbs i lost in low end tq made up for it in the top end gains. had another rx8 owner who was all slammed and greddy exhaust all the way back. he loved it and stopped to talk this morning. asked if i had straight cat back. told him indeed i do and said hes ditching his for some str8 pipes. ill take it to get dynoed sometime this week. the most noticeable is the slight gain of power in the 8000-9500 or so rpm range. vs stock felt restricted and as if I should have switched gears earlier. and the feeling of speed from the sound makes 120 feel like light speed. to each his own I definitely agree. just wanted to share how happy i am after reading many people regretting it after how loud (it is but ive passed 20+ cops and they all ask questions rather than light me up. creep out the neighborhood below 3k rpm and everyones happy)

if you are modding the exhaust in any way ditch the cat, its the only real power gain and its not much

There - you're finally onto something. A louder car makes you feel like you're going faster. Every ricer in a crappy Civic with a fart can thinks they're going fast too. Don't be like them.

No, I don't think you lose power. Not sure why the OP is talking about losing power down low (where you can least afford to lose it). Our engine does not benefit from back pressure.

The midpipe has a resonator, which damps certain frequencies. The cat itself also functions as a silencer.

Yours was probably quiet, because all you do is crawl around in traffic at near idle anyway.

I passed an RX8 at WOT with a straight pipe about a month ago. You could hear that thing from a half mile away. It was quite possibly one of the worst sounds I've heard in my entire life. Including my mother in law.

Thanks for the rescue Mr. Dallas! As always, much appreciated!
And good one! I must admit haha.

I don't take the car out during the day anymore, but while it was on the lift, with the stock exhaust off I revved it to redline. Yes the resonator was on. Maybe that's why. I didn't think sounded bad though. It was definitely loud, but it wasn't an ugly sound. Sounded very deep.

Speaking of loudness, I recorded the sound with the stock exhaust removed and after installing my exhaust (R-Magic titanium). When compared, without the exhaust it was loud ALL the time. Even at idle. With the R-Magic, the tone is more high pitched. Loudness wise, it's really quit at idle and when accelerating gradually (almost stock!), BUT, around 6000-8000RPM, they're both equally loud. So full throttle at high RPM, it is as loud as having no exhaust.

OP, did you keep the stock resonator on?

I'm confused, i guess I read the title incorrectly. He's not talking about running a midpipe into a muffler? I was thinking about going with the catless BHR resonating midpipe with a borla exhaust. I saw this post and though that's what he was talking about.
