Starter Question

I’ve got the Renesis 13b engine in my track car. It’s a stock engine. The starter that came in the car when I bought it used doesn’t look like the starters that I’ve seen pictures of for the RX8. My starter has a shaft on the end that plugs into a bronze bushing on the bellhousing. The part number of my starter is SR34X.

Anyone have any idea why my starter is different? I want to upgrade to a faster cranking starter to help with my starting issues.

That's not a Mazda part number.
You want something like N3H1

It’s a 2009 that I bought used from a guy in Ohio. Its a Pro Formula Mazda. It’s the correct starter evidenced by the part supply house, starracecars.

Im hoping there’s a newer starter that’s available now that will spin the engine faster so it’s easier to start.

I just looked at N3H1 starter pictures. That looks nothing like my starter. The N3H1 has a large cast piece that would go into the bellhousing. I’m pretty sure that won’t fit my engine. Any idea why the two starters are so different?

I think then it depends what trans you have. Starters bolt to transmissions not engines.

But that's still not a Mazda part. I looked it up and it's apparently Bosch/VW sooo.. I think maybe these questions need to go to the previous owner?

It’s attached to a Hewland FTR, 6 speed sequential trans.

Thanks for the help, I’ll keep checking
