Start Times

I was just curious to see what the start times for the RX8 should be.. Mines 2-3 seconds in good weather and when it's hot it's just under 4.5 seconds, but faster starts in the cold.

Not good. Should start in 1 second maybe 2 if warm.

i don't know, but i'll update you guys on it when i find out... this morning? i still believe it's the stock starter, but I looked inside the engine and I saw new coils, very much like the ones above.. so I'm thinking it might be the starter getting old, but thats just me. it is a 2008. what would you guys recommend or think? even if I don't have a starter speed written down

also you guys are very very helpful, very grateful for you guys to help out a stranger!!

It should start in a second or so like any other car. If it's not doing that, there's a range of reasons from poor compression to bad battery. That's why I asked about starter speed

He mentioned it was stock so it probably cranks pretty slow. Starter upgrade is worthwhile especially in a low compression engine. I've seen these cars with under 6 bar compression have no starting issues hot or cold with an upgraded starter.

starter speed was at 250rpm, but the more times I start it the quicker it seems to get.. but this also is a car that was sometimes barely a weekend driver, it sat a lot, sorry for the late response btw

It's a bit low. Starter upgrade will help a lot.
