Why is there a speed limiter on my 2004mt ? Its set at 185km/h no other one of the 8ts ive driven has this? Can it be switched off or removed?

The automatic transmission equipped RX-8s all have a speed limiter in the US, and I think some other places in the world. The manual transmission equipped RX-8s don't have a speed limiter in any part of the world.

I am unclear on if it can actually be removed.

A few years ago, a mechanic friend of mine told me that if a customer asked to have tires that were less than z-rated put on a car, the shop was required to set the speed limiter. Maybe something similar could have happened with your 8?

Possible there is an issue with the engine? Want to tell us about the symptoms?

Wonder if its not an fuelpump prob now..I am having bit rpm issues...feels dead till I reach 6500rpm and then it just comes alive, like huge turbo lag... if I hamer it or go slow up the revs stays same...changed coils plugs everything...if I come up to 182-185km/h its like the car stutters and holding me back..its always the same speed does not matter what rpm im in...

ALL JDM Rx-8 has build in Speed limiter of 180 KM/H , it's required by law.

Even some non-JDM has this speed limiter, it really depends on ur country. but JDM 100% has this, I seen it, and it does work (has to be removed from the ECU)

Boy that sucks, why license a company to sell a performance car, then legislate out the performance
