Shifter Shake

Gear shifter (6 spd MT) shakes pretty consistently. Seems to be a lot worse when idle settles down to 850-ish and pretty bad (to the touch) when shifting at high load/red line. It's there during low load and just crusing around town but not near as bad.

I've done a couple hours of looking around and seems to be a common result of motor mounts going out. However the rest of the car is solid as a rock and doesn't vibrate at all.

Also note, the other day I jacked up the car to look at the underneath just making sure things were looking generally ok and wanted to check out the exhaust system. While I was down there I noticed the transmission had "36k" written in yellow paint on it. I'm assuming the transmission was swapped out but no solid proof yet. (waiting a bunch of paperwork from the dealership that the previous 2 owners kept logged) - Would this have anything to do with it as well?

Thanks in advance for any ideas/input. You guys rock.

So did you check the mounts or not?

Yea, they seemed fine glancing over them, just a little wear around the edges but no cracks

mine weren't cracked but the PS had separated the mounting point from the body itself. Its motor mounts.

Is the shifter loose side to side? Sometimes the bushing on the end of the shift lever will break and it gets really loose and it will rattle almost buzz

I'll pull the mounts after the new years and give them a better look.

As for the shifter itself, it's pretty snug with no excessive play and no noise.
