seeking help... from Spain!
Hello everybody!
My name is Filippo, I'm from Rome but I've been living abroad for many years now (now in Spain, before I've been in UK... who knows next!) and I'd like to buy a second hand RX-8 (first series since the second series didn't reach the Spanish market). I've got few questions for which I haven't been able to find clear answers online, in any of the known languages!
Till know I've understood that it is better to "avoid" 2004-2005 units, for a number of weaker components that sooner or later would lead to the "flooding" issue. So is there a clear indication to detect these units? Do they have a specific chassis number? Like up to nē "...XXX45456", or a model code (like 2-3 letters of the chassis number) or simply a engine number somewhere on the engine?
All the 5 speed manuals have the 192hp 4 ports engine? So that all the 6 speed manual are all 6 ports 231hp? Are there clear aesthetic differences between the 192hp and the 231hp, like do the 4 port have the redline at 7500rpm? All models with fabric interiors are 192hp?
If I'd find a good one I guess it would be better to bring it to a Mazda Dealer for a compression test. How long would it take the test?
What's the life span of this Renesis I 13B? Looking at cars with around 60.000 miles on the clock, should I already expect the compression score to be around 7.0? In this case does make more sense to drop the engine and swap it or, open it and rebuild it?
Many thanks in advance to everybody!

hi everybody,
After weeks of search across Spain (and Europe...) I have found my perfect RX8.
It is a 2006 6speed manual, brilliant black and it only has 64.000km (40.000 mi).
To get it I had to go from Mallorca to "O Grove" and from there I had to drive back all the way down to Valencia. So in the first two days I have done over 1000km (600mi), I'd say "enough" to get to know the car in detail!
The truth is that I've been very fortunate with it, as the (only) previous owner bought it new and has always treated it very well, keeping it in perfect condition (interior and body) and did all services at the Mazda Dealer where he bought it.
As I said the car has been lovingly cared for, but has also reached a mileage that requires further checks and services, therefore I have ordered several parts to the local Mazda Dealer and on ebay.
Having no trust whatsoever in workshops in general, I will probably do everything by myself.
- Coils, cables and plugs -> original or other brands? NGK?
- Decarb -> Zoom Power Engine Cleaner-A86 0000-77, also want to do it by myself, I've read all possible 3D on the topic and saw enough videos. Advices?
- Gearbox and differential oil change - I would like to buy Idemitsu oils but apparently it seems to be very difficult to get it here in Europe
- Engine oil - I would also like to buy the Idemitsu but I'll have to look at other options. Which oil would you recommend?
- Discs and pads --> recommendations?
The car has no problems, really, however I will have to check/verify:
- The low level coolant light switches randomly on, the sensor (the whole expansion tank) has already been replaced under warranty, so I'll leave it as it is
- Front discs have to be replaced
- Strong buzz in 6th gear -> will it go away with the gearbox oil change??? It is normal?
- Wheel alignment -> Do you have the original values from Mazda?
Thank you very much in advance to all for your help, answering my 1000 questions!
Filippo

Idemitsu oil: You can get it at Wankelshop - Startseite .. the owner is a nice guy and i think he ships Europewide.
I would recommend Motul Oils ... Motul x-cess 5w40 for the engine, Motul 800 for pre-mix ... Motul 710 for sohn-adaptor, 75w90 Gear 300 for Transmission and Motul Gear 300 LS for the differential.
Brake Discs and Pads: I would recommend EBC Black Dash (USR) Discs and EBC Redstuff Pads ... for Spain u can find the Distributors here --> EBC Frenos Spain
Greetings

- Discs and pads -->
Coils don't buy off eBay to meany fakes out there that could mess you up plugs NGK wires NGK or MSD.
I wouldn't do a zoom zoom decarb at that low of milage. Mine is at 140k miles never had it done and running strong.
Gearbox/diff I hear redline is really good just use recommended weights in the owners manual.
Engine oil I use castrol GTX 10w30.
Disk and pads use OEM the car has a grate OEM braking system unless you just feel the need to spend more on something els.

All good answers above.
Welcome.
For an 06, I suggest looking at the two threads in my signature. The Congrats thread is a bunch of things to get started from easy to less easy. And, they all help.
I use redline oils for diff and trans, GTX is great for engine every 3,333 miles, I like the stock rotors, and use Hawk HPS pads. Unless it gets really cold, those are a nice improvement. I agree with decarbon only if an issue. I am at 95,000 on the second engine. But, 8,000+ are on the track (my decarb procedure).
Again, welcome.
