Rx8 turns off when release the gas pedal

Hello everyon, I am having a problem with my car.

I have a Mazda Rx8 2005 AT with 55K miles, and this is the problem.
Sometimes when I release the gas pedal the idle speed becomes too low and the car turns off. Can you please help me with this issue?

Thanks for your help, I am new here, so if you need more information, please let me know. Thanks again

Thanks for your answer, I replaced the plugs and the coils like three months ago, and I cleaned the MAF also. My car has some problems with the warm start so maybe this could be a problem of low compression but I haven't felt any loss of power. This problem can be happening for a problem with the fuel pump? The emissions smells a little weird.

Thanks

Fuel pump problems tend to show up at high RPM, high load.

Slowly failing compression sounds like the culprit when coupled with warm start problems. Get a compression test to confirm.

I'm having the same problem, I have a 2004 rx8 and when I start it and let it run it stays on no problem, but when I move it forward it moves but when I let go of the gas pedal it shuts off at idle.... so frustrating, I changed the coils, wires, plugs, and I changed the air filter. still does this problem, I got a obd2 reader thing and it gave me a cylinder 2 misfire??? anybody know whats going on?? I don't want to take it to the dealership because they will charge wau to much for simple things..

Are you certain that you routed each wire from coil to plug properly? Just an idea...I don't know for sure if that would make you have a misfire code???

Yeah I made sure, it was doing the same thing when all the other plugs were on, they were still in good condition but I changed them anyway, one of the screws to hold the coil to the plate its on broke, but it's still hooked on there. Another thing is when I let it warm its fine but when I revv it it can't go all the way to 10, 000 rpms it only goes up to 7000 rpms

Do you have a 7,000rpm rev limit? Some RX-8s do, and no RX-8 has a factory 10,000rpm rev limit.

I think the misconception sometimes comes from how inaccurate the RPM gauge is on our Series 1 RX8's

I should take a video of this as proof but my Tach is off by almost 1000 rpm by the time it reaching 8500 rpm (the Cobb is only reporting 7500 rpm)

But yeah ... what RIWWP said.

Yeah, I asked that question mainly because I don't know if he is trying to provide an example of a problem or not.

Not very clear.

Well my rx8 used to rev up to 10.000 RPM, now that its been giving me problems it only revs up to 6.000 RPM and it dies at idle whenever I take my foot off the gas. Hope that's a little bit clearer

Well ummm
Free and easy things to do:
- Clean ESS
- Check plug wires are connected in correct order
- Check plugs - fouled plug can indicate issues.
- Clean Maf
- Check Catalytic convertor

No your car never ever never never ever ever ever REV'd to 10k rpm.
Unless you had someone make a custom ECU map raising the RPM Limit to 10k rpm.

Furthermore because of your determined persistence on insisting that your engine did rev to 10k rpm, I would suspect your engine is toast, done, baked, fucked.

So what you need to do is:
- Go to Mazda dealer and get a compression test.

Without knowing this, you are just going to waste your time and money doing anything else. No joke

it means you have a misfire.. so again; check your spark plugs, make sure your wires are properly seated, make sure your coils are connected in the proper order, clean your air sensor, clean off the ESS, and have the battery disconnected for at least 15 minutes for good measure to make sure the computer reset.

if you are lucky your problem will be solved. you also might want to read some of what the other members in here told you to read because you obviously havent.

it may seem stupid but where do you get you gas from and what grade do you use? i had the same problem not too long ago and mine was solved by using shell gas bc i got my gas off a military base (which i was told is watered down) and thats when i encountered the problem

That could possibly be a problem you should stick to BP or Shell gas stations or what other members may recommend depending where your located bc watered down gas that you can get from certain gas stations will cause problems and the grade you use idk how it affects the car buh i stick to 93 premium and never have a problem
