Rx8 turns off or idles really bad when shifting into park or neutral

I’ve had my 2006 rx8 for about 2 months now and when we first bought it. It would turn off when I came to a complete stop while in drive and whenever I put it in park. Well after that we put a fuel injector in the gas tank and it ran fine after that for about a month that is. Not too long after that it started to vibrate heavily when I had it in drive and it began to do it again. So I went to auto zone and bought seafoam and put it in my fuel tank and it stabilized and ran fine again for about another month but it just happened again today and I put more seafoam but it didn’t work. I’ve read That I may need to do a full tune up and get new spark plugs, coils, and need to a compression check on the engine. But I don’t have any equipment at home to do much of that and well there’s not any mechanics I know that can work on a rx8 here in Alabama. If anyone can help me please let me know. Love my rx8 to death and I just want it to run well. I knew it was a high maintenance car before I got it and I knew problems would arise so i made sure to have money set aside for this car if anything went wrong.

If you haven't already read the new owners thread Read this!

I'd suggest trying these tune ups first(if you haven't already) Congratulations, you got an 8.

The best place to get a Rotary specific compression check is at the dealer ship or a rotary specialist (check your local threads).
You need a minimum of 8 numbers( 3 psi #s per rotor(2 rotors) and the rpms they where tested at) more info is in the new owner thread.

Lastly shutting off at stop lights or when put into park on autos are normally related to low comp numbers, along with hot starting issues. Only way to know is with a comp check tho.

Good luck!

Thank you! My parents have been telling me to sell the car but I really don't want to. I work 2 jobs and make sufficient money and go to college and such. Before I bought this car I did do some research and what the rotary engine needs but there's not any mechanics that specialize in rotary that I know of here in Alabama.

Replacing the ignition parts is an hour job TOPS if you're doing it for the first time. You may want to get compression tested before you spend money on it, just to make sure it's not a much bigger problem. Also I strongly suggest you stop driving it until fixed, to avoid bigger/more expensive problems. If you've read up, you'll know these engines don't tolerate abuse.

You have a few options for compression testing.
Build your own:

Use a regular compression tester just like any other car, with the shrader valve removed. It won't give you precise results, but if it's super failing, you'll know.

Rent a compression tester. Someone on this forum was offering this service, potentially one of the vendors, but I can't for the life of me find the thread.

But all this should have been done before buying the car :/ I hope you got a good deal.
