Rx8?? (opinion on one to purchase)

Hi guys my name is chris and i am new to this forum. I am looking to buy an Rx8, and as i was looking i saw this ad. The car is in awesome shape with only 64,000 miles on it . The owner is asking $4,400 but here is the deacription given, is the car worth it?

"Selling my 2004 Mazda RX8. The body of this car is in excellent condition, it does however need mechanical work. I recently took it to the Mazda dealership and they diagnosed it as having a vacuum leak on the intake manifold as well as needing a new rear oxygen sensor. Unfortunately I do not have the time/money to do the repairs myself so I am looking to sell. It has a clean title and I was able to drive it home from the dealership with no issues although I recommend having the repairs taken care of as soon as possible. This is an excellent car if you are able to make the necessary repairs yourself or know someone who can. Please contact me via email with any questions.

65,xxx Miles

Automatic Transmission w/Paddle Shifters
Grand Touring Package
Bose Audio
Power Seat
Heated Seats
Premium Wheels
Multi-Disc Changer

The car is being sold as is.

Asking $4400 OBO"

Ask for a compression check before you buy it.

Make sure to read through this whole thread before you make any offers. Know what your getting into before hand and you'll save yourself some frustration.

It's being sold as-is and a compression test is a must. Test drive the car and see how it runs and drive. If everything checks out good, then I guess it should be okay, good luck!

Please include descriptive thread titles. Your thread title of "RX8??" begs the response:

"Yes, this site is about them."

Sounds a bit sketchy to me. You should ask how often the owner has been replacing the oil and if he has been filling it up/using premix.

I do agree that in this situation, you are playing russian roulette without a compression test. I don't know about Rx8 pricing, but I think KBB has the value around $7-8k for a good condition 2004 model? $4400 sounds a bit too good to be true. But I could be wrong. Also automatics had a higher failure rate.

I hate to give advice to NOT buy an Rx8, but it does look mighty suspicious. If it were me, I would pass just to be on the safe side. Whatever you choose, gl to you
