Is the RX8 for me?
Hi all!
Currently looking to get an RX8 in a few months, would be great if i could get some tips from all you mazda enthusiast.
I have a mini cooper at the moment, so i understand that its going to be a big difference for me so id like all the help i can get choosing the right car for me.
Ive heard that the newer the car the better it is... Is that true or just rumours?
Also about the mileage that the engines dont last that long. I also understand that the more tlc you give them the better they will be, oil, a good rev now and again, and revving before you turn them off.
Thanks guys hope someone can help me (:

Hello and welcome.
I've had an 04 for 9 months & absolutely love it.
Like Al said, read the stickies. It is necessary to gain a full understanding of what to expect.
The only thing I would say is that 8s are unlike most other cars, and you have to be prepared to be vigilant in maintenance. Also know that you will be filling up with premium gas quite often, as it is nearly impossible to drive without "enthusiasm".

yes read up on the stickies but a few things that I can list off from my experience thus far as owning the car for only a few weeks:
2005 with 79K miles (still under warranty till November)
slow/long start: common issue, check plugs, wires, battery and coil
check engine light code P0302: check plugs, wires, and coil
clutch pedal assembly: common issue will most likely break the original one lasted 7 years in my car though
intermittent coldand hot air when using ac: common issue on earlier models the connector needs to be re-soldered
radiator light: will come on if the overflow is low and may stay on if a bad sensor
oil consumption: check your oil every other fill up and add accordingly
no spare tire: i was rather dumbbfounded to find this out but it's true you get a tire inflation kit if it is still in the car to save weight
MPG: expect between 16 and 20 mpg this is normal expecially for the age of the car
there are more things but I will add to this list when I think of them or when they come up. it really is fun to drive and you hardly notice when you are revving past 5, 6, 7k rpm. so smooth!
