RX8 Clutch Kit?

Hey just blew my clutch out on my rx8, dealership and other shops around barrie ontario want 1850-2000 for the parts, labour and install?????!?! Is this normal???? Im seeing kits online for 300-400 dollars??? Probably going to go with the exedy stage 1, just wondering why there charging me this much, buddy called around and said the cheapest he could find the clutch kit is 1150, why does this not sound right to me? what do you guys recommend I do?

Yeah, It's pretty normal. My clutch just went out, and they also had to replace the bracket behind it, it came out to around 1.5k. Previous owner messed it up pretty bad... lol. Sad part, you wont know unless you take the engine out and check.

You should get the stage 2, it's a little bit different, but is much better.

No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no

on the Exedy Stage1.

It's taking a risk that you are going to have to do it all over again, as there are lots of premature failures with the kits. Some work fine, many others fail really early. I had 2 fail on me, the 2nd failed 100 miles after install.

If you are N/A, just stick with the OEM Factory clutch kit. Yes, it's made by Exedy too, the problem is only with the Stage1. It fits perfect, it lasts for 90,000+ miles if driven properly, and it's cheap.

Yea I just find it outrageous how they want 1200 for JUST the kit, seems like theyre trying to rip me off, why is the aftermarket ones online 800$ cheaper then what they want from multiple shops? and am I getting everything in the kit online that would come in the kit from the shop? Also need a flywheel resurface.....should I look into ugrading that while im at it? trying to be cost efficient here

Yeah, the dealership prices are just hugely inflated, and they price each individual piece of the kit out, and the costs add up a ton.

I wouldn't bother upgrading the flywheel unless you really want a lighter flywheel. It will change the dynamics of low speed driving, but certainly isn't needed. The flywheel plus counterweight will add a whole lot of that money back onto the cost. Resurfacing the flywheel is simple and cheap, and is all you need.

Its just weird cause I see other people on the forum getting theirs from the dealer for 600 and 600 labour and still being mad about it. I got a phone call saying 1800 and felt my heart touch my feet

I don't know how shipping into Canada will change prices for you, but this would be my recommendation for anyone in the US: Exedy Factory Clutch Kit, RX-8 | Black Halo Racing

The kit contains everything you need.
If you get it from another source, you will have all but 1 part, which is the pilot bearing seal. BHR adds the seal to each of the kits, because he knows you need it and no one else supplies that part too.

Other than that, the kits are all identical, and come with the clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing, pilot bearing, and alignment tool.

Edit: Ray corrected me, the pilot bearing seal that he adds is to the other Exedy kits, the OEM kit already comes with it.

Buy it from Black Halo Racing. You'll get everything you need.

See the "...Stranded in the city" thread a few lines away from this one for recent deeper discussion.
