reset ess after cleaning in an s2

What's up everyone? I just cleaned my eccentric shaft sensor in my 09 rx8 and was wondering how to reset the computer to relearn it, if necessary. I know in s1s you pump the brake 20 times quickly but I don't believe that works in s2s. The car still runs well but it idles a little rougher now.

Thanks for any help!

Yup, they are different, per the workshop manual.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
NOTE:
2004-2008 and 2009 and later model year procedures are different.

2004-2008
1. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position, but do not start engine.
2. Pump the brake pedal at least 20 times within 8 seconds after the ignition switch is turned ON.
NOTE:
Manual transmission equipped vehicles produced after VIN 40132647 and automatic transmission equipped vehicles produced after VIN 40132607 or vehicles with PCM updated to "L" calibration or later can confirm the clearing procedure was performed. If procedure was successful, the oil pressure gauge needle will move to right of center slightly (nearer H).
Vehicles produced prior to these VIN's or vehicles without "L" calibration do not have an indicator to confirm the clearing procedure was performed.
1544a
OIL PRESSURE GAUGE NEEDLE WILL
MOVE TO RIGHT OF CENTER SLIGHTLY
3. Drive vehicle and confirm misfire related DTCs are not stored.
NOTE:
If the malfunction cannot be corrected even though the procedure was successful, the eccentric shaft position plate may be damaged. Inspect the eccentric shaft position plate. Refer to MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual section 01-40 ECCENTRIC SHAFT POSITION PLATE INSPECTION and repair as necessary.

2009-2010
1. Record customer radio station presets (FM1/2, AM, SAT).
2. Disconnect negative battery cable for a minimum of 1 minute.
With negative battery cable disconnected, depress and release brake pedal one time.
3. Reconnect negative battery cable.
4. If equipped with DSC, perform the STEERING ANGLE SENSOR INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE located in MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual section 04-15.
5. Input customer radio station presets.
6. Initialize power windows. Refer to MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual section 09-12 POWER WINDOW INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE.

Ok, I saw that somewhere but was skeptical. How do I calibrate the steering? To do the windows I basically just roll them all the way down and back up, correct?

Steering wheel just needs to hit both steering stops, left and right. Order doesn't matter.

POWER WINDOW INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE
NOTE:
Initial setting must be performed for the switch of each window drive-side and passenger-side.
If the following operations have been performed, initial setting is reset, and auto up/down and two-step down operation are disabled. Therefore, performing initial setting is necessary.
- Negative battery cable disconnected or power window system power supply fuse removed. (perform initial setting for the switches of all seats.)
- Power window switch connector disconnected. (Perform initial setting for the switch connected with the connector.)
- Prolonged open/close operation of the power window main or sub switches causes the circuit breaker to activate and automatic operation is disabled.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
2. Press the switch of each window and fully open the door glass.
3. Pull the switch of each window to the manual-up position to fully close the door glass, and keep holding the switch up at the position for approx. 2 s.

Cool! I reset everything and the car runs much smoother now. It's been kinda nerve racking since this car hasn't ran right since I got it (which is lame when you just put out all kinds of money to buy it), but it feels great to have it running like it should, and to have figured it out on my own.

Thanks for the help everyone!
