Replacing Cat

Hello, I am new to the car scene but I want to remove my cat/decat and don't know what to look for or search up. What do I need to look for or search up? I have seen some on eBay but don't know which one is the right one. I'm not looking for a mid-pipe or high-flow cat like the rn. I just want to remove the cat so I can start premixing. I'm located in California and don't care about passing emissions (I'm good for a couple of months before I have to pass the test) unless I get in trouble with the law lol. Eventually, I want to run a turbo xs mid-pipe and cat-back. But, I'm still new to this, thanks for your help.

Don't do anything until you pass the test, unless your cat is damaged.

You can premix with the cat, if that's your goal. Using the right premix. To remove the cat you need to replace it with something, so you're looking for a midpipe.

Cats were hollowed by previous owner

Hey all, I was looking to get my cats replaced, but that comes out to about 800 or 900 bucks, and that is essentially for me to do it. Was wondering if anyone knows of any tuners nearby so I can just get it tuned out. It’s mostly for track use but occasionally driven on the road for photo shoots. Just looking for a shop to get it retuned in the atlanta area. Thanks!

You can do it yourself with versatune or Mazda edit. The tool costs about the same as any visit to a tuner and finding someone who knows what they're doing with an RX8 is always fun.

Very true. I’m not exactly well experienced with tuning. Is it somewhat understandable? And tolerable in terms of figuring it out?

To suppress the check engine light for the missing cat? Yeah that part is straightforward. You don't need to actually tune anything. In VersaTune you just checkmark the code(s) you want to disable, not sure about MazdaEdit.

Just curious as I am also in CA - does that also set the cat monitor to appear as ready, or just disable the DTC codes? If your cats eventually go bad, it would be amazing if there was a way to "fake" having one that would pass emissions tests.
