CA California and Cats

Alright so I'm thinking about buying a catless midpipe. I have some questions however. Do you think I'll pass emission tests with one? Can I get a ticket or something if I don't have a cat? Do they check for a Cat when doing emission tests? How often do I have to do emission tests.

anything that removes the cat will not pass emissions. To pass emissions it must have some sort of catalyzer. A catless midpipe can get you pulled over. If you do decide to do this just keep your stock cat for emissions tests or fix it tickets.

Anymore questions like this just post it in the so cal lounge, ppl look at it more often and you dont need to create any unneccessary threads for it and many ppl will be happy to help you out.

I am running catless right now with no resonators and I have not gotten pulled over, so it could be how the cops are in your area or how much you rev.

you WILL get a ticket eventually and you will not pass emissions..also, a catless midpipe sounds raspy and it smells..i would probably go with a double resonated one or a super cat

+1 with what walter said. Except it will only sound raspy if you have a 2.5" exhaust. 3.0" sounds good, but still loud as hell.

So if I switch to a midpipe and keep the cat then swap them out a couple weeks before a test I'll be good?

first off, you need to realize that California has THE STRICTEST emissions laws in the country.
You can never pass a Smog Check without a cat because you'll fail the visual and the 'sniffer' test.

If you get pulled over without a cat, you'll be labeled a 'gross polluter' and sent to a State Emissions testing facility where they'll check everything on your car to make sure it's CARB certified and then fine you a shitload of money.
If you're determined to go catless (now knowing the possible outcome), I would make sure it's a resonated midpipe as the sound of a catless car is very distinct and will eventually get you pulled over / ticketed.

(just saw you posted while I was typing)
yes, you can do that and just hope you don't get pulled over while the MP is on. Again, go resonated or you'll regret it. Unresonated + aftermarket exhaust can be obnoxiously loud.
