Being a newby I was wondering about the rear spoiler. Many of the RX8 [used] for sale with pictures do NOT have them. Was this an option? Are they made by Mazda or aftermarket? Are some better then others? Can they be removed or instaled from various model years? Any HELP or ideas would be useful. Thank You- Zooms3

 

The factory spoiler was an option for all trims, never automatically included. The factory spoiler is a functional one (spoiler = drag reduction, wing = downforce), reducing the coefficient of drag by 0.02.

Lots of aftermarket options for wings out there, but no aftermarket spoilers that I'm aware of. Other model spoilers, like the G8(?) rear spoiler can fit, but whether or not their aerodynamic benefit still applies to the 8 is entirely unknown.

Does anyone know if the rear spoiler was included as part of the factory appearance package option? As in, do all 8s with spoiler come with the lip/skirts too, or was that a separate option?

 

The RX8 Appearance Package came with a lip, half skirts and a sort of hoop spoiler. I'm not sure, but it may have included rear fender wheel well finishers.

Zooms3, the best thing for you to do is to go though pictures of other cars. If you find something you like, ask what it is and someone will be able to help you.

 

I bought mine without it, bought one and install it...looks complete now.

 

What about the Mazdaspeed spoiler?

 

Spoiler did not mean you got the appearance package too. My cars only option was the spoiler.

 

Yep, it all depends on how the dealer optioned the car. I have seen some weird combinations of options.
