Radio change

Hello everyone,

I have got an 2006 RX8 192 HP since 2016 and there is something that has always bothered me, even if it isn't that big of a deal:
The OEM CD autoradio can't read MP3 discs.. I was able to get a very cheap 2008 Mazda 6, 6 cd charger that reads MP3 from a friend. Does anyone know if i plug it to the RX8 faceplate it will work? I have read that Mazda OEM autoradios are very similar...

Is yours the base stereo or Bose?
If base you have a better chance, but if it's Bose you might need one of the later Bose units that does mp3. Best thing to do is check the part number for that Mazda 6 radio and see if it also appears in RX8 parts list.

My audio system is Bose and the 6 autoradio (that i have yet to receive) is supposed to be Bose as well but i am not totally sure about that... I checked and it doesn't appear on the RX8 part list.. It wouldn't be fun if it was so easy!

On this site https://pinoutguide.com/Car-Stereo-Mazda/ i was able to verify the pineout is the same between RX8 and 6.

dang it Vince, wish you would have posted a few months ago.
I just took my entire bose system out and tossed the CD unit which I upgraded back in 2005 to the 'mp3' version. Mazda did make a unit that could read mP3 discs, for those that didn't have the 6 disc changer and wanted that feature instead. I doubt you could find it in stock at this point and it's probably overpriced anyways.

have you considered doing a bluetooth adapter instead so you can just stream?

Thanks for the reply, i had read about that mp3 module and it is too expensive indeed... That price on the 6 radio was just too good to pass on (25€ with postage costs) and it is exactly what i wanted as it has the 6 discs changer as well. I am fairly "old school" when it comes to this as all my music is stored on mp3 cds.

I guess i need to wait and try for the swap but i'm getting increasingly pessimistic. I could do if i'm losing some infos on the LCD display but now i am starting to doubt it will even plug to the RX8 faceplate.
