Question

Thanks for the add. I recently bought a 2004 RX8 as a project for my grandson and I. I was told when I bought it that the engine needed rebuilt, it will start and drive just fine, but after 20 to 30 minutes it dies and won't restart for 10 to 15 minutes. Do I need to plan a total rebuild or just the seals?

There is no answer to that. You need to tear the engine down so we know what you have going on in there.

That said, do you have the compression test results?

Read this thread completely, including the section on rotary-specific compression tests.
,
If your engine needs a rebuild, unless you specifically have rotary building experience ,you would be better off going to one of RX8club's trusted and recommended rebuilders around the country . In most cases a proper rebuild will require more than just new seals, especially for any original 2004 engine. That can only be determined on engine teardown.
