Red face Power Steering Probz Please Help!!!

Okay, so Ill start by saying whenever I first bought the car early 2014 it was perfect and I had no problems. However, a few short weeks later I was involved in a wreck and the left front corner of my car was fucked up. When I would turn, the wheel would make a nosie and it would turn in a choppy, hesitant, resistant like manner, as if the power steering were cutting in and out. Anyways, I was able to get her looking pretty again however, I did not have the money to replace the rack and pinion at the same time it was in the body shop (because they said it needed to be replaced). In July, I replaced the rack and pinion, yet the power steering still did not even register. I still drove with out the power steering working because I had to, until I was able to take it to Mazda where they told me the EPS module needed to be replaced as well. Instead of spending 1200 at Mazda I purchased one on Ebay for way less and installed it. At first it seemed promising then, turned out to be worse. When I turn the wheel it resists very hard, but in like a copy way as a turn the wheel, in both directions, until going. off. I took it back to Mazda thinking it may just need a reflash. After a few hours they told me that EPS I just replaced was not giving any bad codes but the problem was still there. I gave them another day and they are telling me that the EPS was not even online any more, and that the rack and pinion is messed up. They also said they checked all my wires and the voltages were fine. Should I warranty out both parts and replace them at the same time???? Please help me IDK what to do anymore, I just got a lot of parts I want to put on but am thinking of just selling everything. ANY ADVISE??!

The first advice is to clean the power steering connectors under the air filter box. If that doesn't fix it, then buying a replacement harness for that section (http://www.mazparts.com/en/rx8-power...wiring-harness) is fairly cheap, and might solve it.

Both of these two solutions are IF you have the common power steering problem that 8s tend to deal with.

However, you were in a wreck where the steering rack was probably damaged. So the other advice is to replace the rack. Trying to find a different solution when you know something is damaged isn't very productive.

What dealer in town did you go too? It could be teh harness, noise filter, or the EPS module. It needs to be properly troubleshooted.

Well I had replaced the power steering rack already last August. It didn't fix the problem so I took it to Mazda here in San Antonio (because the clutch went out on the move up here) they did a diagnosis and said to replace the EPS module. I just did and I'm still having problems.

B.T.W they replaced the clutch with a stage one exedy clutch which works flawlessly
and a used tranny that had like 30K miles w/ one yr. warranty

I thought I had purchased one with a noise filter but the one sent to me didn't have one so i said **** it and replaced it any way. That brings me to what I said earlier... It still didn't work so I took it back to Mazda a few days ago and they checked 'all my connections' and re-ran the diagnosis, it came back to the EPS malfunction again.

Damn power steering!

Okay guys, so last summer I wrecked and messed up my power steering. After getting body work done I then replaced the rack and pinion thinking it would restore normal operation. After the install I was broke and the powersteering was still malfunctioning, so I was forced to drive with that new rack and pinion. When I moved to San Antonio my clutch had gone out forcing me to take my car to North Park Mazda here in SA. After diagnostics and fixing up my tranny, they said that I would need a new EPS module because they had a code saying it needed replacement. After replacing the EPS and noise filter, I am still having issues. Mazda told me I need to also replace rack and pinion as well. Should I warranty the one out that I just put in???? OR WTF. I dont know what to do. Any suggestions?....BTW I have a video, . In the video you can hear a "cuh cuhk cuh"when turning the wheel. Its like a choppy resistance when trying to turn the wheel, until the powersteering light comes on and turns off the power steering. It literally is easier to drive once the power steering goes out, it only takes a few minutes max after starting her up.

Yes, I did, it shows what you described.

You replaced the harness? You thoroughly cleaned the connectors?

technically i didnt clean the sensors either but when i took it to Mazda, the lead tech told me he chased all the wires and the connections and voltages were good so i didnt bother cleaning the ones under the airbox. should i still try?

...yes.

99% of all power steering problems with the RX-8 are those connectors. Ignoring them isn't very productive.
