Power steering

power steering went out in my car, mechanic says it is the rack & pinion but i personally do not have a problem with having to turn the wheel a lil harder. Problem is though if my rack & pinion is messed up is it okay to drive without something else going wrong?

The plug is probably just corroded. Check that out.

If it doesn't randomly lock up then you're fine driving without it.

Most steering issues are with the CAN wiring between the control unit and the rack. The plug just below the coolant overflow tube is usually the problem. Clean it with contact cleaner...and lubricate it with dielectric and it tends to behave.

If that doesn't work try the plug at the rack...and then the control unit in that order. Disconnect the battery in between
