Is Poor Man's Compression Check OK

Is it reasonable to check the compression using a piston engine gauge with the shrader valve removed and then taking slo-mo video of the dial with a cell phone? Has anyone tried it?

If you just want to know if it is blown or not yes, if you want to get an accurate picture of the health of your engine then no.
