Please help me out
Okay so let me start by saying hello! I'm new to this community and just recently bought a series 2 rx8. I've done a large amount of research on RX8s and rotarys in general over the past few years, however my rx8 "knowledge" seems to only cover the series 1. So I have a few questions. First one being, do I premix the series 2? I know the series 2 has an extra oil pump going into the rotor housings thats supposed to help lubricate but not sure if I should still premix. Also how much premix per gallon and what oil do I use for premix? Idemitsu, or any random 2 stroke oil? Second question. What is the best transmission fluid and differential fluid for me to run? Third question. How much longer do these engines last as opposed to the series 1? Mine currently has roughly 84,600 and runs like a new car. I love it so far I just need to know a rough estimate so I know when I need a rebuilt engine ready to swap into it. Thank you for your time!
Welcome to the club! Definitely post some pics! There is a forum devoted to series 2 vehicles here you can check out if you need more information. To answer your questions:
1. Premixing isn’t necessary but it doesn’t hurt. The series 2 has an extra OMP port to lubricate the middle of the apex seal. In series 1 RX8’s it was discovered that the middle of the apex seals wore faster than the corners. The series 2 updated the OMP to have 3 oil injection ports from 2 to address the wear issues of the middle of the apex seal. If you are going to premix, use a JASO FD rated 2 stroke oil like Lucas or you can opt for the Idemitsu premix oil. If you have your cat, mix 1/4 ounce per gallon of gas. If no cat, you can do 1/2 oz per gallon.
2. The brand of oil is your choice for transmission and differential. Consult your owners manual for this information.
3. The only way to truly know the health of your engine is to have it tested with a rotary compression tester. It’s worth your while to purchase one and perform the tests yourself. It’s really easy https://www.rotarycompressiontester.com/

no guarantee of mixing just pouring it in and good luck getting it to mix evenly doing that with a dual saddlebag fuel tank, but of course it’s better to tell yourself so to sleep at night ...
