Oil seals for compression

Hi,

I cannot bring myself to sell my 8 and thus I have mothballed it in the garage for the future. I tried to start it after 6 months and while it turns over strongly it won't fire.

I have been well versed in a flooded engine over the last 11 years and that is not the problem.

Someone told me that the oil in the engine that forms the rotor seals may have drained down.

Does anyone know if this is correct and on a wider point whether There is a way of re-establishing the compression if it is lost?

Cranking, but not firing could be a number of issues. Compression loss usually suffers from hot starts, not cold. Though I don't rule out compression loss as a possible issue.

Have a look at the "starting issues, start here" sticky found in either troubleshooting or technical subforums

Oil in the engine that forms the rotor seals? Don't ever ask that someone for advice on your RX-8 ever again.

As RXSoldier said, starting issues could be caused by a number things and the issue would have to be properly troubleshooted so i suggest reading the stickies or the troubleshooting section in the factory service manual (you can find it online).

Could be as simple as bad gas. Did you put fuel stabilizer in it before storage?
