Oil question
Hey everyone, just had a quick question. My 2005 Rx8 seems to be running great! The compression test was good, and I got a new catalytic converter and new exhaust system put in by Mazda. My question is that it doesn't seem to be burning any oil. Or maybe it is and I'm not noticing. Every time I check the level, it seems to always be at the same point. Is that good or bad? Or am I way off? This is still all new to me. Love the car though! Any thoughts would be helpful.

Oil consumption depends on how hard you drive it. I drive moderately, and on average use a quart every couple of thousand miles. Doesn't fall at an even rate. How many miles have you put on the car? I see you just joined in November.
If your OMP isn't working, then you won't use oil but the engine won't be happy.

I have 57,000 miles on my 2005 RX8. Its running great, so i'm assuming that it may eat oil at a different level. I only drive it when commuting 20 miles and back and then I have some fun on the freeway a bit everyday. Anyways, hope that helps.

oil
Also, why does the older RX8's have an oil breather hose that goes into the intake? doesn't that mess up the filter and the throttle body? Why did Mazda do that?

It's a quart every couple thousand miles as mentioned, you're not going to see a difference going 20 miles here and there. A quart is about the difference from the high mark on the oil dipstick to the low mark.
Why did Mazda put a breather hose? You'll have to ask Mazda, but I guess it's because most cars have one to release crankcase vapours into the intake, instead of the atmosphere.
