New owner/member

Hey all,
I figured I'd introduce myself. My name is Erik, new member, just picked up my first RX-8 about a week ago. 04 Grand Touring with 114k on the clock. Minor rust damage to the quarters but overall in very good condition. So far, I've done the fog light mod, air pump removal, and have new springs and exhaust (Racing Beat, full exhaust) on the way. I plan on getting the AEM intake, Axial Flow short throw, and a Cobb AccessPORT soon. I attached a pic of the new beast.

Thanks 04Green. Khurram, I haven't done a compression test yet. I'm taking it to my friend's shop in a few days so I'll check that out. I've read some stuff about the ignition components. By CAT, do you mean the converter? Because I'm getting the "race pipe" with the RB exhaust. I plan on putting a spacer for the O2 sensor to restore the equilibrium.

I've briefly been running mine without a cat (a decatted stock pipe) and have no spacer, and no CEL either - not sure if I've been lucky or that's just how it works.

Sounds good..RB is a good choice to go with..On top CATs in rx8s are also a failure point so you get a win win from it.
No CAT converter = CEL unless u mask it..

Aang, you just gott lucky i guess.

I guess I'll find out when I install it. Haha. I was debating between RB and Tanabe. I figured RB would be a good bet.

We would be remiss here if we didnt tell you to read the following RIGHT AWAY if you havent. Any 2004 with 117k miles on it could be hiding issues. Get that compression test FIRST before spending a ton of money on other things. If you have a failing engine, that will take all your money. The other items can wait until you know the condition of your engine. Unfortunately we members have seen too many excited new owners of used high mileage 2004 RX8s that never got an engine compression test BEFORE purchase, then shortly wound up with failing engines and expenses they never anticipated. No one is saying that will be your fate, but you need to curb your spending on other items until you know the true health of your rotary engine (even if it feels ok to you when you drive it).

Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely put a compression test on the top of the list.

Sorry for not updating, did a compression and vacuum test, everything is good. Stopped running a few weeks ago. The cause is the fuel pump. Just ordered a new one, should be here soon. She'll be on the road again shortly.
