Oil pan baffle?
The oil pan on the top is from the original engine, the other (with the grid pattern) is the one from the motor I just picked up. The grid pattern portion seems to be some sort of baffle and bolts in with those three 10mm nuts on top of studs mounted in the c-channels in the bottom of the pan but I don't see what purpose it would serve. The original pan, which is not smashed to hell, and does not have those three studs was the one I planned to use, but my questions are, what is the baffle doing, and do I need to bother retrofitting it to my new pan?

The second pic is the original pan with studs welded I for the baffle. I didn't think the original post went through and decided to make the undented pan fit the new pans baffle. And did this. So I'm thinking 7-10 horse gain?
