Not so a New Member

So,
The time is starting to pass.

I'm starting to see a lot of not so new members still posting in the New Members section.

Why?:

- Stupidity?
- Cowardice?
- Laziness .... YESSSS likely this one ... lazy
- Afraid to leave the house, grow and join the real world?

When does the New Member forum just out and out replace the Dumb Question thread?

That's what I was thinking as well.

Not sure if it would work however.
I guess it's better to pollute this sub forum than the legit ones.

Definitely better to do that than the main forums, post count is still that "badge of honor", at one point i deeply cared about that but meh, i've been here for a very long time anyways :P

I never understood that. Every time I see my post count I'm embarrassed, and I think of all the productive things I could have been doing with that time.

Possibly a better indicator of wasted time would be posts per day.

And now i feel like i've done a lot with my life by having a low post count :P

Alnielsen is right, post count per day would definitely be a better indicator.

Another way to beat the system, start your own threads and constantly respond in them, i believe that doesn't add to your post count?

Not sure that's true, I'm pretty sure it goes up when you post in your own thread. I haven't posted in any threads (until this one) except for the thread I made yesterday and it's kept track of my posts.

and now you can add another one on to that number because of this one

All posts count toward your score unless they are in certain areas of the forum that are flagged to not count: Lounge, many regional subforums (but not all), all Classifies subforums.

There is only one member that I am aware of that care enough about his post count to even try to "cheat" the system in the only method available that we tolerate.

Spamming for post count is something we don't really like here.

RX8Club.com - FAQ: RX8Club.com Forum Rules
16. Do not deliberately inflate your post count, aka "post-whoring" by responding to a thread with multiple responses when one would do, or "contributing" to threads with a constant string of "me to" or "yeah!" type comments. This has been tolerated in the past but will be no longer. Deliberately inflating one's post count does nothing but waste server space and turn otherwise useful threads into impossible to navigate pages of junk. If you want to chit chat, go to the lounge where useless threads are the norm. :-)
It gets pretty obvious if someone is trying to spam their count higher using this: RX8 Live!

Post count is nothing more than a "participation score". Someone with 5 years of membership and thousands of posts has simply participated more than someone with 5 years of membership and 10 posts. It doesn't mean anything beyond that, including knowledge, experience, accuracy, honesty, opinion strength, etc... And because of the un-counted areas of the forum, it isn't even accurate. I don't recall the method of checking the actual post count, but at 50 posts per page the "find all posts by" search feature for me maxes out at 1,000 pages. You do the math. Plenty of other people have far more than I do in Lounge areas.

Lol, thanks for clearing that up. That definitely made sense, when i started the community chat thread in the west region, i just thought because i made a lot of the threads that it didn't count, now it makes sense :P Learning something new everyday on here. Anywho, i got to stop posting, i enjoy my decently low post count especially since i joined here in 05 :P

Yeah, we definitely do not tolerate useless posts that do nothing more than communicate useless information. That never happens here.

so tempting to just leave it with the wavey ... but then it would be deliberate. It does appear that the new member section helps keep the peace.

I sense some sarcasm Shell

It's all a judgement call and a balancing game. I expect that less than one half of one percent of posts on this forum are informational of any type, including information about non-technical subjects like discussions of Sevenstock or DGRR, other meets, social stuff, etc...

I'm not really interested in deleting thousands of posts every day, but when I see inane comments threaten to derail conversations, I remove them. Most of you all don't see all the posts that get deleted, so it is perhaps not really apparent

Even the guy you are thinking about. He doesn't cross the line often, but I keep an eye on him.

Well...post count yes and not really, but the new members section newbies sometimes ask specific questions that they don't know, and whoever wants to answer it, will answer it, even if your new or not, plus, there is no restrictions if you could post there or not anyway...

Isn't that one of the purposes of the new member section? A place where newbies can get help under Marquis de Queensberry rules, rather than get into a knife fight in the main fora. This forum wouldn't do much good if only newbies participated.

I find myself joining threads here a lot because the new members tend to ask interesting questions. In the main part of the site I think we've already asked each other the same questions over and over.
