Hello all,

Was hoping someone can help me out.

My dad has a 2005 Mazda RX8, the version with the pop up screen/sat nav if that helps.

A few weeks ago all was fine with the car running like a dream etc then one day it cut out and wouldn't start. The breakdown service was called and they hooked it up to the diganostics computer which pointed to port 1 failure i believe.

It was taken to a local garage he used before and he hooked it up and found the same. All 4 spark plugs were changed. THe coils were checked and they are all ok.

The car now starts and drives fine but is very loud as you can hear in this link



He has spoken to a mazda specialist company but they are 100's of miles away and they say without hearing it that the bearing has gone and needs a brand new engine but surely if that was the case the car wouldn't drive? There is no performance loss; press the pedal and it pulls like a dream albeit a very noisey one.

He put a brick against the pedal with slight pressure added to keep it revving and noticed that at the rear of the engine behind/below the oil filter where the bell housing is there is some oil coming out when it is being revved.

He seems to think it may be something to do with a gasket their where the exhaust meets it?

The noise is constant whether clutch pressed in or not.


ANy ideas ? Any help much appreciated.
