CA Newbie Here! 04 GT

Hey guys!
Just bought a 2004 GT 6-speed. His name is Bruce.
117k miles, 30k on the motor.
First thing I did when I got him this weekend was oil and filter change, repaired a tail light, and bought some 2 stroke oil for when it starts running low. As well as a thorough interior and exterior cleaning!
Started tracking my gas mileage and after 2 tanks of all freeway, i'm averaged at 19.7 mpg.

WELCOME!

Did you get a rotary specific compression test before purchase?

Just for clarity of your statement, your planning on running 2 stroke in your fuel correct?
If that is indeed what you meant, then yes premix.

The way it sounded from your statement made me think your planning on using 2 stroke to top off your oil. If that is what you meant, DONT.

The only time that is used aside from premix is when you replace the oil being injected into the housings with 2 stroke oil via a Sohn adapter or something similar.

Read through both the links within my signature, they should help get your feet wet.

Again Welcome and enjoy the forum.

Talking Introduction: Newbie here, Hello new friends!

Hey guys.
In a month i'm moving to Florida, sadly I will miss California. But a little piece of my favorite state is following me.
Meet Bruce, my beloved RX8.

I have not done a compression test.
The car does have an adapter, where it only runs 2 stroke in the engine. I believe it is the Sohn, but I haven't done my research yet. I was instructed to 'UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE LET THIS 2STROKE RUN DRY', and that's what i've done.
The first owner kept a meticulous log with receipts of everything done to the car, the second owner however failed to log ANYTHING. So the car has a roughly 2 year gap of unknown modifications. I call this gap The Dark Ages.

If you allow that tank to dry, no oil will be injected to help cool/lubricate the side seals. That would be bad.

You premix to lubricate and help cool the apex seals as their is no injector on the S1 like the S2.

You still have to keep up with regular oil maint. Because that helps lubricate/cool the eshaft bearings.

As I said earlier read the threads linked in my sig. The new and potential owners thread is important for every new 8 owner to read.

The compression test is important because without it "new members" more specifically can't gauge the health of their motor. It could be failing and you wouldn't know. I would suggest a comp test soon, just for your own peace of mind
        Hope that helps

        Again welcome
