NE new rx8 owner from nebraska

hello all, dont let the name fool you, it does have a rotary, but hopefully not for long.

i picked up an 04 titanium gray auto rx8, all stock, with issues. first off, low compression rear rotor, contributing to the hot start issue im facing. secondly, bad downstream o2 sensor which gives me very poorgas millage, not that rotary engines are known for exceptional mpg, this isnt my first one. minor exterior damage to the front fascia i present. but overall its a rather clean car for 90k miles on its second engine.

these are my plans, and i know lots will hate on me for this, but being a summer car in a small town, im going to swap a sbc 305/35o into it with a t5 5 speed manual trans. main reason, im very impartial to the v8 engine, and later down the road ill have my 5.3l and t56 ready for it if i decide the sbc isnt enough for it.

so before anyone steps in with any negative comments, remember, my car, my likes/dislikes, and constructive criticism is allowed. im doing this for the fun factor, knowledge, and overall results in the end. i will start a build log once things speed up a little for me.

i do need to source some parts from here though. clutch and brake pedal from a manual rx8, and possibly some interior/dash pieces.

i look forward to having good conversations with everyone here.

Where in Nebraska? I'm in La Vista and as soon as my axles get fixed (had to RMA them) I'll be titling my car and having someone fab my exhaust. I swapped in a 5.3 with a t56.

The rx8 is drive by wire, so you'll either need to emulate that or get a drive by pedal cable. I got mine from and rx7 and made a simple mount to clear the firewall. I was thinking of reusing the pedal and making it work with a cable, but instead I'll be taking the pedal plate off to make it look legit.

Welcome to the club, glwb.

Alliance. A good 6 hours from ya at least. But that's not a bad thing. At least I kow there are others nearby.

As for the gas pedal, I planned to pick up a universal pedal. Ive always hated the dbw setups. Especially when they go bad!!!!!

Been a good while since I've been on, recently had to move back into town from the country, so needless to say it's impacted a few things here and there.

I did, have some questions, the manual rx8 brake pedal, do I need to switch the bracket as well, or could I just switch the pedal and lever it's on? Not having to switch the entire unit would be a big plus. As for the clutch pedal, from digging there's seems to be a structural problem with them? Would it be wise to invest the strengthING bracket I see available, or just some extra bracing from welding on some slightly thicker steel do fine?

I don't know about the brake pedal, my original was a manual trans. Is there a reason you want to swap the pedal? When i was referring to the bracket I made to clear the firewall, it was for the gas pedal since it was dbw to dbc.

The clutch pedal sucks. Mine was snapped when I bought the car, which is probably why the clutch was bad. I had a guy I used to work with tig weld it back together. The bracket is aluminum, so unless you've got a tig welder or can mig weld aluminum, you're better off just buying that reinforcement kit. I'll probably be replacing mine soon since the welds weren't exactly good.

Reason I ask about the brake pedal is because I'm doing a 5 speed swap when I v8 swap it. As for the clutch pedal, I suppose I can make a brace setup myself, I more than capable of doing so I'd rhink.
