Welcome! You can ask questions here. Once you're over 10 posts and 30 days (I think?) you can post elsewhere. But you're on the right track starting a thread, let us know what help you need.

Its the base model 4 port rx8 I belive, equipped with a 6-speed manual. I bought for about $400 with no knowledge of its condition, besides the fact it ran a year ago. The interior is incredibly clean but the mechanical is unknown. Previous owner lost the key so I had it re keyed and programmed. I did this so I could get rid of the hot wire start they had set up. It would crank hot wired. but now it won’t crank with the key… any idea why?

Also it wouldnt start just crank, but that’s a different can of worms.

4 ports in america are a 4spd auto or in europe/japan the 4 ports also came with a 5spd manual. all m/t 8s are 6port engines. all 8s regardless of trans 06+ are 6 port motors

It is a 2005, again not sure of the exact engine designation. All I know is it’s a 13b, all my research pointed to it being a 4 port. good to know I could be wrong.

That's confusing.
It won't crank with a reprogrammed key?
Did the dealer reprogram it?

Well, you paid $400 for a high maintenance car.
If you plan on keeping it you're going to have to learn to troubleshoot problems.
If you have no crank, start with testing the battery, connections and starter.

Resist the temptation to start changing parts.
You can quickly spend $1k and still be where you started.

I fully know the implications of owning a rotary I bought it knowing that, I’ve already gone through tested the battery checked wire connection I got stumped so I figured there had to be something I was missing. Thanks to all who have sent me advice!
