New RX8 fanatic/owner
Hello guys! First I would like to say just how glad I am to be a part of this community. I spent a lot of time on this forum over the past few months. Everyday while I was at school (which always starts in the AM) I was reading all posts I could, in order to collect more knowledge about this beautiful and special car and it's even more special engine. RX always had a special place in my heart, starting with the RX7, over which I drooled until I saw a beautiful red RX8 few years ago.
I am 18 now, and I am looking at the RX8 in my city, Zagreb. I am from Croatia.
The example that I am looking at is (in my opinion) painted in the most beautiful color; yellow.
It has 69 000 km's on it and seems to be in a great shape.
Greetings and enjoy your RX8's
Toma

Welcome Toma. i was in Zagreb about 14 years ago working for the Canadian military. I am also a new owner of an RX8 and love the way it looks and drives. Colour choice is personal, but they all look good to me. Lots of great info here and lots to learn. Enjoy your ride.

Welcome! Is this your first car? Just a little exerpt from the new owners thread:
Young Owners:
(This was writen to one specific owner, but I am leaving it with the personal and targeted verbage)
A side note added: about a year after I wrote this to that specific owner, he totaled his 8. One of the best and most respectable kids to show up on the boards, and it still happened to him.
To be brutally honest though, we often make heavy attempts to steer kids (sorry, you are ) away from the 8 as a first car. First cars are usually neglected, abused, and/or wrecked. And we don't imply that it would all be your fault either. My first car last 2.5 months, ending it's life with an SUV landing on it's hood while I was stopped. **** happens. How prepared are you to lose a car that you will probably form an emotional attachment to? (it happens. Everyone either loves or hates this car)
Abusing the 8 doesn't have the same definition as other cars, but, with no real road experience, driving the 8 properly is insanely easy to land you in significant legal trouble. My first day driving my 8 I was up to 123 on I-70 winding through the mountains without any straights before I got woken up from heaven by passing another car like it was standing still, glanced down at the speedo and was shocked to realize how fast I was. Most owners have this same type of experience. If it happens at a bad point, you are talking arrestable.
Again, you seem smarter than most teenagers that come on here, and with the money saved up for it, more responsible and probably would take better care of it, but just some things to keep in mind. You can find a great Miata for a few thousand that will help teach you about maintenance while still getting the same handling without nearly the speed potential.
Regardless of your decision, I highly highly highly recommend you get to local SCCA autocross events. Seriously. Even 1 event will help improve your driving. Keep doing it for fun and education though, it's the best bang for the buck that you can have in your own car. Driver mods before car mods.

I understand where are you coming from, I don't want to sound cocky or anything like that, but I started driving 4 years ago. I am quite tall (6'4" and 235 lbs so please don't make jokes about me not being able to reach pedals... Back then I was 5'8", but that's not a subject now)
I also wanted to add that I learned to drive cars with my father mostly in the early stages, and then later improved it with my brother on the track. Both my dad and brother were racers (brother had more success, but life drove him in another direction... Family and stuff, but again, that's not the subject)
I would also like to add that since I learned how to drive on powerful cars (250hp) I also learned how to respect car's power, which I think is very important and that is the thing that most young guys my age don't get. Then they easily get in trouble.
About that car crash; you can crash any car, and feel emotionally attached. I have a 97' civic that I use for fun and school. RX8 would be a car just for my soul. I wouldn't drive it so much, but I know I would enjoy it much more. I am aware of care it requires, and trust me, it even draws me even more to it. I feel like it is a car you have to understand in order to get the most out of it, and that is not entirely the case with BMW's etc.
Again, I respect car's power and I know that I will drive it like it likes to be driven ONLY WHEN THE ROAD IS EMPTY (even if that means getting up at 3am just to drive it a bit)
I know my driving skills are good, and again, I don't want to sound cocky.
Best regards,
Tomislav

Toma, I am 5' 8", and can reach the pedals on anything. The information given is not to insult you or young drivers, its just education from known history. Enjoy driving through those amazing twisty roads you have.

With that being said it's good to hear that you come from a racing background and understand what a fast car is and how to handle it. That will probably be the biggest thing that can make you stand out against other 8 owners. Knowing when and where to bring out the beast is good.
Have fun with the new car.

Hello guys, sorry if I sounded cocky. That was not my intention... I just wanted to let you all know that I am aware of the power this car has and problems I can get in if I take approach like it's a toy.
Green04- I can't find that post in your signature(?) maybe it has something to do with this mobile version... I don't know
Thanks guys and again, I am truly happy to be a part of this community!
(English is my 2nd language, so please forgive me some mistakes)
Greetings ,
Toma

Welcome, if your mobile mode is like mine, scroll down to the bottom of the page & tap "View Full Site".
That should change the mode to desktop where you can see the signature.
If you want to change to mobile again, there is a little mode box at the bottom left of the page to switch between modes.
