So my check engine light came on in my 04. Went to my mechanic and I got two codes. P2259 and U0155.
My mechanic just shook his head, looked at me, and told me I should sell the car ASAP.
Now he's not an rx8 specialist, earlier in this thread I mentioned he changed my spark plugs. He said these codes aren't related to the spark plugs. Is this true? How F'ed am I? I read up on the codes, it seems like the p2259 is either nothing or a real bitch to fix, and the U0155 means I have to unplug the battery for a second.

Advice?

U codes are just communication codes where his reader doesn't understand some of what the ECU can talk to him about (not code related, other systems).

P2259 - AIR solenoid valve control circuit low

That is your air pump. If you have a cat installed still, then generally you should fix this, since it prolongs the life of the cat a bit. It is hardly critical however, as the air pump just helps get the cat up to temp when starting cold, and then shuts off never to start again until your next cold start.

If you don't have a cat, you can completely ignore this.

If you EVER have either a general shop mechanic, dealer service manager, or generic car-clueless person tell you something about the 8, you might want to check here first (as you have done) before you believe them. There is so much ridiculous misinformation, myths, lies, ignorance, etc... out there about this car.

Granted, there is a fair share here on the forum too, but at least we attempt to police ourselves to keep it to a minimum.

I've been fed so many BS lines by people over the years, from a dealer rep telling me that RX-8 cats never fail, to a shop mechanic telling me my head gasket was blown, etc...

The more you learn yourself, and learn how to do yourself, the more equipped you are to deal with challenges as they pop up. Getting a bluetooth OBD2 adapter (for example) would have let you pull the code yourself and look it up yourself, without the time, trouble, possible cost, and fright of having someone else do it for you. Adapters can run between $25 and $150, with the higher priced ones generally having better speed, lifespan, and compatibility. Saves a lot of money over the years of ownership, and you can use it on your car, and the cars of friends, family members, neighbors, etc...

OEM plugs

If you want hands off and want to be sure you get everything correctly, just order the ignition kit from Mazmart. (Mazmart.com, paul@mazmart.com, or user name Mazmart on here)

Make sure you read through the misfire thread linked in my signature.

I have a few questions about aftermarket exhausts for S2 RX-8. I'm looking to upgrade the stock exhaust I have on my 2009 R3.

I've done some searching and it appears the the Racing Beat REV8 is the only one specifically made for the S2? Is this true?
I'm wanting one that fits easily without have to bother with exhaust hangers and what not.

I've seen that people have said the RB REV8 weighs a lot.
Does it weigh more than stock?
Wouldn't that really just harm the car's performance than help?

What other aftermarket exhaust options are out there that are made for the S2?

My latest question is about editting the avatar on this site. Is there some type of restriction for newbs to not be able to edit their avatars? It does not give me an option to upload or change my avatar at all. Am I missing something?

I'd recommend waiting another week till 10-29-2013, then your 30-day post restriction will be lifted, and I'm guessing your avatar restriction as well. I'm not 100% sure on that, but I believe it to be the case.

Sorry to bother you, i dont know if this is the correct place to ask this question i am new so i appologise if this is not the correct place. I just have a question if you have the time to answer. I have just bought an RX8 04, it seems to take 30 or so seconds to start when constantly hold the key, also it is hard to select gears when the car is on, it fine when its off but not when it's on.
Any Advice.

Sounds like several different problems are present, and the simple description you give literally covers nearly every common failure point on the RX-8. Without more detail, it's hard to give specific advice.

So I'll start with this:

https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-f...t-here-202454/
A) Did you get a compression test before purchase? (post #8) If so, what were the scores?

B) did you do any maintenance after purchase to get things to where they should be? (post #9)

C) If you can be more detailed about the issues, we can probably be more helpful.

I have never had a presure test. When the car has been sat for a whil i turns over and starts fine. But if i turn it off and try to turn it on after only a few minutes it turns over but will not fire up. with regards to the gears it seems fine at first but after driving for a while it becomes hard to put into gear and eventally will not go into gear at all.

Speirs can you be more specific? For example, let's start with the mileage on the car.
Do you have any maintenance history? When was the last time the battery was checked? How many miles on the ignition components (plugs, wires, coils)? Does the car have the upgraded starter?
Are there any check engine lights?
Is it harder to start when the engine is warm or cold? How cold is the weather where you currently are?

OK, I'm hoping this is just me being new to the car, but I'm having problems with the my 2006's smart key. I have to use the valet key (actual slide out key) rather than just turning the **** almost every time on my 8.

When I unlock the car, get in, and try to push in/turn the ****, it simply won't turn. The word KEY flashes on the dash, as well as a red car with a key in it.

I've looked up the KEY and red car w/key in it, but not sure if any descriptions really fit my symptoms. Most people are saying that this remains illuminated when driving, but mine only does this when I try to press/turn the ****. If I insert the key and start the car, it does not flash.

In the service records the previous owner gave me there isa replaced rear antenna for remote transmitter, a $500 dealership charge, done 1.5years/5000km ago. Could it be related?

I'm also having the issue, but I haven't had time to do any testing. But, this is where I'll likely start

Has anyone here increased the rev limiter and speed limit on a series 1 automatic? I plan to do so on mine when I take it to a dyno and have its ecu tuned. Just wanted to know if there were any side effects and such.

Yes, people have done it, no it isn't a good idea to increase the rev limiter, no there isn't any immediate penalty, but yes, there is a very good set of reasons for the reduced rev limiter on the automatic.

awesome thanks for the info. I'll stay away from the rev limit change then. Any reason not to remove the speed limiter (for autox)?
