So my car runs rich on gas, it's not to bad but the exaust has a strong smell to it, which I don't mind myself but i don't know if that's bad, when I usually hit 6-7 thousand rpms it misfires alot and I have flames that some out of the exaust, idk what the last person did to the car but I would like to know what could be the reasoning for those and if there bad, my check engine light was on for the catyllic converter but I think it needs a new o2 sensor which might be why there's that smell cuz there may be an uneven oxygen gas ration

Check for clogged cat, or bad spark plugs and coils.

If you have an engine light on for the cat and you are shooting flames, chances are the previous owner de-catted it. You should take a look inside the cat to see if it actually has any of the "honeycomb" left, or if it's just an empty tube.

And Welcome!

Welcome aboard! and congrats on acquiring the little fire breathing monster :-)

99% certain, strong gas odor + flames = no CAT :-) which is a good thing for your engine but will cause you to fail Emission tests and sniffer tests whichever your State requires.

Flashing Cell represent Misrfire, get the codes. Find out how old your ignitions parts are.
Replace them all at once (COils + Plugs + Wires) Forum favourite is BHR kit :-)

Get the compression test done for sure this is a must and should be done prior to purchase.

And read this link to grasp a better understanding of the little monster you just got ;-)

If you had a cat, you don't any more. The flames and strong odor are pretty telling signs.
