Welcome.

There is plenty of helpful info in the New Owner stickies.

If there are any specific issues you're concerned about you can ask here and someone will help you out I'm sure.

What kind of 8 did you get?

Thank you, at the moment I’m unsure what kind I have. It is winning blue metallic. The first issue I need to address is the heater does not work. Only blows cool air.

It could be the common motherboard issue.
There is a way to check to see if it's working.
It happened on my '04.
In the 0-16 check in this thread, I could fiddle with the **** to get the heat to come on at 16.
It would work at 16 or not at all.

Good luck!

Does it have leather seats?

So we know it's not a GT (Grand Touring) model.

You should also look into seeing if you have any open recalls that haven't been fixed by entering your VIN number at this site.

So I done this test this morning, I can adjust temp control **** and nothing, but when I push it in, it starts blowing hot air. I believe I will take it apart this evening and see if I’m lucky and it’s just a bad solder joint.

Awesome.

I'm happy to help, and I appreciate you updating with your resolution.

Not everyone does.

Greetings,
Purchased an 2007 rx8 with 75k miles on body and all mechanical parts. New plugs, plug wires, brakes and rotors, and a few other relatively cheap replacement parts. Looking to improve longevity and reliability more so than power but wouldn't mind squeezing a few more horsepower out if I can do it with tune via software upgrade/update. From what I am seeing in most forums, A Sohn oil bypass and radiator seem to be the number one recommended upgrades for improving reliability and longevity for the car. Had a few issues with it running rough when cold but much improved with the new plugs and plug wires and starter. Like everyone these days I am on a limited budget. Plan on this being my everyday driver for a while. (short commute only about 10 miles each way) All Seals and gaskets look to be in good shape. I am new to rotary engines and while not an idiot, I am certainly no expert. Are there any other easy and affordable upgrades I should be considering? I am aware of the ignition coil issues but as of now it doesn't seem to be causing any issues. Appreciate any constructive feedback or info. Thanks in advance

Welcome. You have a lot of questions and you will want to start your own thread with these questions after doing a little research. Do a little reading through threads, search for some specific issues you are having, and create a new thread if your questions are not answered. Posting in an older thread with new questions thay are not relevant to the original topic will not help you get answers you have questions to. We are all here to help and I am just trying to help you get where you need to be here on the forum.

Welcome. Sounds like you have a solid start. Coils are a silent killer, if you wait for issues to manifest, high chance you'll be shopping for a new engine. They're also the number one cause of death. If you're not confident they're recent and/or known good, I would replace them. I wouldn't bother with a Sohn at this point, with 75k miles on the clock, I'd focus on premix and good oil and oil change regime. You're in FL, where I hear it gets warm, so cooling upgrades - yes absolutely. The stock 19 year old radiator plastic isn't your friend. Ditto for hoses.

I don't suppose you had a compression test before purchase to baseline the engine health?
Also - you can start your own thread, no sense taking over an old one.

Have a read through RX-8 Help, it's summarized from this forum.
