New Keyfob Unit

Hello, when we originally purchased my rx8, it was lets say...broken. We had full engine rebuild, body remoulded, repsrayed etc..but we also were only give 1 key for the car.

Now, im completly fine with the key entry, having to unlock by hand evry time, but would i be able to get a keyfob unit off my friend and have it programmed for my vehicle?

thank you

Jordan

I don't believe so, I believe the cars something specific. Try looking at the following articles., they might help.

If you just want a remote for keyless entry, they're around $80 for a switchlade key/fob on the web.

okay, looks like i was wrong myself, my dad just looked in the safe and founf another key for my rx8, so we have 2 keys. So, with 2 keys i WILL be able to program a third, but will i be able to program a key thats already used on another rx8?

In the past, I have tried reprogramming a key from another RX8 myself but it didn't work. Took it to Mazda shop and they were able to take care of it.

Figure it must be a safety feature so people are not taking other people's keys!

I took it to the dealership where I originally purchased the car, and they did it for free.
