some recommendations. I bought the second 8, the first one I sold out of necessity, a great pain sometimes it touches. I come from Venezuela the first time I saw it was in 2006 black original black wheels amazing literally love at first sight. Now I live in the US and I was able to buy the second one, it has come with serious problems, thank God, an excellent engine. First, the SSV valve is stuck. Solution: Change the solenoid and clean the valve, but if you see that the bushing is damaged, it is better to change it because that makes it jam. second problem hahaha flood solution spark plugs coils and cables, third problem and still in process damaged clutch pedal right now I'm doing reinforcement and resoldering and 4th problem hahaha I see that we all have the Cat I'm going to eliminate it.

some data and improvements
kit sohn if or if you have to go and put an oil pan. (can oil) so you keep your glass cleaner, mix 2 T and the collector. buy the Morroso coolant container I recommend it is much better and the radiator

the only thing I see that is needed here is a good tuner and that's it hahaha and for those of us who have MT the lever kit so that it doesn't have play.

Pancake Slap - I wanted to dredge this up and see how your car is coming along. Also, I have a post count of 9. This will be 10. I don't know what the post count minimum is to be able to post a thread. Maybe it is 10.

Now my son is moved out to college. He is down on the coast of GA. About a 315 mile ride from home. The car is doing good. But he and I suspect the catalyst is starting to go bad. Slowly plugging. It's throwing the P0420 code. And to me it seems ... too sluggish when floored. Steady cruising and slowly accelerating, it's good. But when you really try to force flow through the converter, it feels sluggish. And mpg seems to be slowly dropping.

I don't want to "pollute" the environment any more than I can possibly get away with. And if the RX8 were a piston engine car I would certainly just replace the catalyst (once it definitely fails). But on this car, I'd rather just replace the catalyst with a resonated pipe, and install an O2 sensor simulator. This car still has to pass emissions, so we would need the O2 sensor simulator. He and I are not interested in squeezing out hp. Not at this time. The car is in great shape, and aside from the cat converter issue is a very solid ride. I'm researching our options at this point to see what is possible. I just want to keep such a great car working reliably and not have to deal with the expense of a catalyst that may also go bad. Unfortunately, I can't post a new thread yet.

Let me know how you're doing with your car!

I'm pretty sure you need 10 posts before able to do your own thread. I would take care of that cat asap, it could lead to much bigger issues. I personally have mine punched out thanks to the previous owner.

The cars been doing great, finally found the time to clean the interior. I can tell exactly how many dogs the previous owner had!

BHR has a good mid pipe that can have an optional catalytic converter. Not suitable for track use but, fine for street. Cheaper option than stock cat replacement and will last. Don’t get a cheap replacement, they fail rapidly.

Thanks for the reply.

You're in the same emissions boat I'm in. I've read that with not cat, but with a pipe with a bung for the downstream O2 sensor, that running defoulers (non-foulers, whatever ya wanna call em) with that downstream O2 sensor, that even without a cat, it would pass the emissions testing in Atlanta metro. I don't know the fact. But sounds like with yours "punched out" maybe that's what you're doing.

I made a little table below to sort of summarize the situation I'm in, and my options. Better than wording it all out. 2 notes: The first row is the situation. And the content in the column "Pass emissions," is just my guess.

If you can confirm that you are passing, with either defoulers or a simulator, and a punched out cat, then I think my direction becomes clearer. I'll procure what I must, load up my tools, jack stands, floor jack, etc, and take a little 300 mile ride down to the coast and find a shady spot. Course, those darn nuts / bolts are probably corroded / heat welded to the point I might not be able to get them off. Maybe I find a shop down there. Anyway, below is my cute little table (I'm an engineer, I can't help doing nerdy stuff).

My personal opinion is that the row: Removed / Stock + Non-Fouler, is the best combo (if it will pass emissions). Least expensive, best engine efficiency (good power / high fuel economy), highest reliability. All the things I would prefer. The emissions will not be so bad because it is running the stock tune, and aside from an actual "tune" I think the power from the car will be (I don't know how to express my mind) smooth, clean, effective. And with no cat to go bad, my son can run pre-mix with no worry about what it may be doing to the cat. He's running pre-mix now, although, after the light and P0420 code came up this weekend, he ran without it on his way to the coast.

Oh damn, that is a nice looking unit. Thanks for the info! I'll be looking into that in detail.

I live in Hall county so no emissions. Also I daily a VW so I'm pretty used to ignoring a CEL. I would definitely check out the BHR cat.

Decided it was time to upgrade the starter. While I was down there I went ahead and changed the tranny fluid gender neutral shift juice. I know people will have their opinions, but I decided I'll try out the Valvoline Synchromesh. Took it for a nice long drive and it was a world of a difference.

Decided it was time to give those nasty rock chip guards some attention. I hit it with a heat gun a used a plastic scraper and a bunch of goof off. Came out pretty decent. I'll do all the cutting and polishing when I get up the courage to do a paint correction day.
