Can’t post in the correct forum so posting here for help

2004 rx8 150k miles numerous owners , automatic

I bought it with this issue being told it was the throttle body. (Which was visibly in need of repair)

replaced that.
issue continues

it will run and drive all day if I keep the rpm’s above 1k … I achieve this by driving with two feet .. one keeps the fuel pedal down slightly continuously… I shift between drive and neutral to allow me to stop at lights etc while maintaining pressure on the fuel pedal and brake with the left foot as needed.
if I mis calculate the pressure and it drops enough to die , it will not restart for 10-15- unknown minutes later. 😑

I have checked for vacuum leaks by spraying engine cleaner around and there is no fluctuation.

I just bought a crank sensor because of a suggestion but I haven’t replaced it yet.. waiting for it to cool down currently.

I can crank it fine and it will idle all day in my driveway… today I let it sit idling 35 minutes without issue. I revved it up a few times seeing if that would cause it to die , but nope. Acts like it runs just fine.

but I know it will die if I just take it on a test drive .

is the crank sensor the next thing I should try replacing ? What’s the next several replacement part suggestions .

thank you!

First, welcome. Rx8help.com will give you a primer on ownership and known issues.
Unfortunately failing to restart when warm is typical compression loss. You can get a compression test at a rotary specialist or Mazda dealer, and typically that's best done before purchasing, but I wouldn't invest in any other parts before confirming the state of the engine. Compression loss is irreversible and requires a new engine. Sorry.
