I am a new member here. I have had a 2006 Mazda Rx-8 Shinka edition for about a year now. I have never had an ounce of trouble with the car. It has a 100k on the body and 45 on the new motor from Mazda. The other day I parked the car when I got home and when I came out that morning the battery was dead like dead dead. It was the first day we had a cold snap and the battery didn't make it. Anyways I had the batter tested just to be sure and it was bad. So I bought a new one and installed it. However, after I did the car just turns over it will not start. So I don't know if this would have anything to do with it or not but, the passenger door lock is not wanting to lock now. I do not have a key fob for the car just the two keys. Can anyone tell me where I should start? I am thinking maybe something with the security system? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have tried the de-flooding method and nothing changes it just turns over.

 

Hi, I'd start checking fuses first, be sure your terminals are tight and not stretched, the bolts can bottom out and seem tight.
Does it sound like normal starter speed trying to start?
Check grounds for corrosion.

The PATS Immobilizer system and the locks are separate.

Have you tried both keys? Is the red immobilizer light flashing on the dash?

Start with the simple stuff though, Check all of your fuses. Double check all of your connections on the battery are clean and tight.

Do you hear the fuel pump come on when you turn the key on?

My terminals look like new. They had a little corrosion but I wire brushed them and they look great when I replaced the battery. They are also tight. I checked the fuses and they all looked good. The starter sounds great. I will have to find a post on here for the grounds and give them all a look over this weekend.

I have tried both keys. The red car with a key on it is flashing until I turn the key on then all the lights come on. I didn't noticeably here the fuel pump kick on. I will check for spark and fuel once I figure out if anyone has had a problem with the security system messing up when changing out the battery.

 

If the starter is turning the engine over it isn't the immobilizer or PATS system....so you likely flooded it

 

I cleaned up all the grounds on the car. Started like a champ. Thanks for your help everyone. Getting ready to start some of the beginners mods on the Rx-8. Looking forward to learning everything I can from you guys. Thanks again
