need some advice on a possible purchase

hello all
so as the title says i need some advice on a possible purchase
I am talking with the owner of a 04 rx8 . the car is currently not running .
he claims this is due to a bad battery and that it needs oil metering pump .
he does not want alot for it , so i made him a low-ball offer ,which he rejected ( it was offensively low ) but he is still talking to me , so i could not have offended him too badly .
I told him that with the car not running there is no way to do a compression test on the engine which form everything i have read is something you need to do b4 buying one of these cars .
he says " Once the battery is charged up the car will turn over to test the engine, it’s just without the pump the car has no power! I never had any engine issues until the pump went the previous owner was a mazda tech always took car of the car. I was driving down the road one day and I put the car into neutral and it stalled, I couldn’t get it started for 2 hours after then once I had it running again after a week it started to lose power in the start and stalled out lower then 1500rmp which wasn’t normal so I had it taken apart and tested the only found in the engine was the oil metering pump. Ok tire should be able to tell you exactly what it was "
so does this info sound like a bad oil metering pump ? or a bad engine .
to me it sounds like a bad engine , based on what I have read .
the other question i have is related to using mixed gass , if i the car can be started , can i use mixed gas and run the car without the oil metering pump working without damaging the engine ? This would not be a long term solution , but would allow me to get the car home . I also see some oil measuring pump bypass kits out there , is this a solution to a bad OMP ? .

The car has 150k kms on it which is right abouit when the engines run out of life from what I have read as well .

I like the RX8 , i almost bought one a few months ago , but b4 i bought it , i did some research and found out about the motor issues . I really don't need another fragile foreign sports car , that is why god created Porsches .

However if I can pick this one up cheap and get it running again without having to replace the engine it may be a fun car for the summer .
but if the engine is bad I am not interested . and if the cars current symptoms indicate that it has a bad engine I don't want to dump $200 into a test that will likely just confirm the car is toast .

advice and help would be appreciate .
thanks

Assume it needs a reman...and pay for it accordingly.

$3k for parts if you can put it in yourself basically.

So that doesn't leave much for the shell if the motor is bad

Great car- wrong buyer. This is a project car, not a summer fun car.
